Hi, I’m quite new into my IVA i started in February and I pay £87 per month I have a few questions regarding what it means to me and what it means for my future...

I’ve decided I want to apply to be a police officer and since found out this isn’t possible whilst in an IVA? The applications look to be opening later in the year. Does anyone know if this is to be true?

My girlfriend and her mum are being very supportive and her mum is going to help me pay it off in full by August/September if that is possible?

What would the IVA people need from me in terms of paying it off and would this possibly help with my police application?

Thanks.

Different forces have different approaches to IVA's. An anonymous call to HR might shed some light on your chosen force.

If your force is anti-IVA ending early will make little difference as the arrangement will stuill stay on file for the full 6 years --- of course, if they are supportive, it will not make a big difference, but can only help the situation. F&F offers are based on the remaning payments due. To reflect time and costs saved by creditors it is usual to round down this offer, but, at £87 per month, you are at the lower end of viable payments, so will have a little less wriggle room.

Best of luck .... please let us know how you get on.

Thank you I’ll give that a try!

My girlfriend and her mum want me out of the IVA too so are willing to do the F&F I just wasn’t too sure what I needed to do and what the IVA company need from me so if there is 55months left I should offer 55 x £87 - £4785.

Is there any reasons why they would reject this offer?

I would be tempted to offer £4000 (maybe £4.5). There is no real reason why they would reject an offer near the full amount, but I have seen it happen ( as well low offers accepted).

Don't forget it will remain on your record for six years, and you will have to mention it on your application form as a credit check will be done.

I'd just ask the Police Force the direct question (you can do it anonymously?). We've certainly handled plenty of mortgage applications in the past for Police Officers who have had financial difficulties.

Someone in the HR Department said gay it shouldn’t be a problem but it’s the betting team that deal with it and they don’t know why it gets rejected...
