Can anyone tell me what cards are suitable for placing down with companies such as dollar in the USA for car hire. All rental charges etc and insurance etc are paid up so it is simply the case of laying down the card in case of fuel cost on return etc. We dont want to take a credit card and be left in the position where credit is available. I do have a capital one card (£100 limit) which I have never used but am concious that there may be problems when we try yo collect the car.
Any help would be appreciated. I have read that the Cashplus card can be used but would appreciate some first hand experiences if possible.
Hi
The worse case scenario is that you leave a two hundred and fifty dollar deposit and a copy of your passport with Dollar.
The other option is to use the card as they will deduct the fuel cost from it so just settle it when you return.
This is first hand experience of using Dollar in Jan of this year.

Cash plus do allow you to use the card to hire a car, you have to request this option, they base their decision on how long you've had the card and usage. I've not actually used the card for hiring a card but I did phone their customer service and it seemed staight forward enough. You do have to do it a few weeks before travel though. Have used a debit card abroad to pre authorise for hotel charges, worked okay.
Hi
I have used the Cash Plus card for car hire and all was fine - They like you to have used the account for 3 months before they lift the restriction to allow car hire - They told me that I should put some money on the card and use it for three months just a purchas or two a month was fine. I had no problems at the airport all was accepted fine.
Best wishes
