Hi, I hope you can answer this query just had a letter from Halifax card services saying if we do not pay up they will take the money from one of our other accounts. Do you know who they are affiliated with?

halifax are obviously part of the Bank of Scotland (HBOS) but i would imagine what they are saying is that they will take money from other accounts you have with halifax. Do you have a savings account for example?

It's quite possibly a standard letter as I got one very similar - i had a credit card & savings account with them ... the fact there wasn't any money in the savings accounts seemed to go unnoticed by them - hence I think it is probably a standard letter if you have more than one account with them.

i think HBOS run the facility for the likes of Sainsbury's but I dont think they are legally allowed to nab money from another bank.

Halifax didn't even warn me that they could take money from another account.

I went to close the savings account only to find that they had taken the money out - £34 against a £20k debt! Wouldn't even have covered a days interest!

The Right of Offset is a worrying legal ability the creditors have to regain monies against their debts as it can leave associated acounts very vulnerable. Check with them to what accounts are they referring and it best to find out who all your creditors are affilitated to so you know where you stand.
