Yes, I told the asked the person who was doing the clearance and the advice was to put it on the form voluntarily.

Like I said it was far more important to be honest and upfront and not try to hide anything..

Good advice, running woodchucks.....people who do not hold a national security clearance here don't appreciate that credit check will always be done. If not declared, the iva cannot help to counter the credit file which will show defaults. ...and the debts seemingly not dealt with. I hold two security clearances in a Police force. The police are the most anal on checks. If you hold an SC with other organisaction you still have to do their own IVC clearance to get in.

Another point here is that those in sensitive job and then get into an iva will be ok but If you are going in this role with an iva then that COULD be a problem. A police trainee who trains and then get into an iva will be asked to leave but coppers or police staff like K who use to be mentor here will be allow to stay.....some do not declare. I have, so there us no come back from human resources. Vetting has always said do not let us find out before you tell us. Even been bankrupt is ok but if you are in the job already.
Similarily the GCHQ website they say that they would not take on iva applicants but MG an IP here acted for many in that role in the job and it was Ok. I do know about immigration.....

Don't know of any forces these days that employ cadets. They are a thing of the past.

Strictly speaking yes the system of police cadet is defunct...now it refers to youngsters as volunteers helping their forces with no direct
auto entry into the Force. I am using the term loosely....it is trainee officers to exact.

I've just googled Met Police Cadets and they are basically a junior version of the Specials and they only get paid expenses.

Hi,

My partner is an imigration officer and the check they do is a full anti Terrorist and financial check, therefore as said disclose it as if you don't you will fail as there is a question of integrity. Being in a IVA says you are doing some thing about your debt. Having debt and not doing anything about it you are more open to bribes etc. I hope that helps.

Just want to tell anyone interested that I have passed the security clearance. They did send an additional financial questionnaire and I explained all my situation honestly. They have said that they will review my financial circumstances in February 2015, but which time I will ha e completed the IVA. Looking forward to the new job and new beginning.
Thanks to everyone for the support I have received.
Patience is a virtue.
