Well now that christmas is over we are going to get to grips with getting everything in place for the IVA to be sorted out. Received new debit cards this morning so they are signed and activated. We have gathered statements together as received and will be sending them off to Mel snd her team. Need to organise a valuation in the new year. I realise its gonna be a long road ahead and this was the last christmas with a credit card to fall back on...although didnt use them! Very glad to have found this forum as its given us the confidence to pursue a wayout! I dream of the day we are free from all this and our income is all ours....until then though Im happy to enter a 5-6 year loan where theres actually light at the end!!
That's right abbiesmom, and you are with one of the best IP's around - lucky you!! I think it will make a huge difference having the forum right from the outset - I found it 3 years in, and doubt I would have lost as much hair had it been sooner! All the best to you. x
IVA journey started: 30th March 2009. Settled: 17th July 2012. Completion Certificate received: 13th March 2013. Breathe. x
Great way of looking at it.... A 5/6 year loan...at the end everything will be yours !!!! Stay focused whenever you are feeling down come to the forum and we will help you get through the bad times....an IVA is not easy and it does mean some life changes are essential for all members of the family in order for it to succeed......
Sharing from experiences of dealing with debt
There is a solution for everyone .... Just need to stay positive !
thanks everybody. We realise need to make changes snd have been open with our 9 year old about money snd how mum and dad need to be careful sbout spending. means cant move house for several years (my only downer about it all). But wil mesn a better life for us all at the end of it and will finish before big expenses start with her. Hoping it will help her be better with money. Feel bad for 4 year old as will mesn less opportunitys for her to get involved in clubs which eldest has done but maybe can make provisions for small things for her. I am feeling more confident sbout whole thing given the good feedback snd reputation that Mel has so fingers crossed all goes smoothly. We arent expecting plain sailing but feel its the best move for our family.
It definitely is. We were open with our boys, they're a lot older than your children, but they took it well and have been a tower of strength in some ways. The youngest put off going to university for two years until we had finished. Hopefully he will be off in September. Keep at it abbiesmum, there will be times when it is all too much, but come on here and "vent". I wish I had found this site before. Good luck to you.
We are raring to go for you Abbiesmum - and we're now back to work so send us those documents as soon as you can and let's try and get things in place before the end of January. Then your last payment will be in December - albeit in five years time.
Good morning abbiesmom, it is around about this time some 4 years ago that both my wife and I were doing exactly the same as you! Since that time my wife's IVA has been concluded with a F&F offer and I cannot believe that this time next week I will saying that my IVA finishes in 12months time!! Yes there have been some hard times over the last 4 year, but I cannot believe how fast it has gone.
Best of luck with your IVA!
I'm with Mel too and feel like I'm raring to go now. Still trying to sort out my bank acount though, the Co-op are still messing me about!
Got to go to branch on Monday to chase application.
Nat West are one of my creditors. I've opened an Ulster Bank account but they are linked to another one of my creditors, RBS. Can't say i've been impressed by the Co-op though, it's been 3 weeks now since I took my ID in!
I actually quite like my co op cashminder account!!
Good luck with the way forward abbiesmum2003,it will be long and bumpy at times but Mels team have a habit of being able to smooth over any problems if you just remember to communicate with them. Dont let problems build up,just get in touch as soon as you have any issues.
You are off to a flyer just by choosing one of the best Ip's in the business!!!

Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.
Continuing to rebuild our credit worthiness.
Had my Co-op debit card in the post this morning! A bit worrying though that when I rang 2 days ago they couldn't give me any info as they said I didn't have enough ID on their system! Oh well, hopefully it will be ok from now on.
