I have been offered a job by a major German bank, however they now tell me that they will do pre-employment checks including checking my credit history. I had an IVA which was successfully completed in 2009 and I now have an excellent credit history, several major credit cards( all paid off in full every month!)and a BMW finance agreement and my credit score is excellent. This bank was not a creditor in my IVA, all my creditors were UK Banks and Credit Card companies. My question is, will my IVA show up on their credit checks, as if it does I think that it may possibly cause them to retract the Job Offer. the job is in an IT function implementing a new admin system, so doesn't involve any involvement with handling money as such?

Assuming the IVA started before 2009 ( and wasn't a one off payment arrangement) it should be off of your record by now -- but it is always a good idea to get copies and check for any stray defaults of any Notice of Correction which might give the game away.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014

I wouldn't worry about these checks, I also work in a very sensitive role and had the very same checks/5 year work record/high level CRB etc and I was still in an IVA at the time, if it was bankruptcy, it would be a different thing as banks don't like to employ BR. I'd be honest though if the issue comes up and explain you've now finished and been discharged.
Good luck with the job.
IVA completed!!! Looking forward to getting my life back! Stay positive and you'll get there in the end.

Thanks Foggy and Helpless 121. My IVA started in November 2004 and was successfully completed in November 2009. It was a normal 5 year IVA. I have checked all 3 Credit agencies and there is no mention of the IVA anywhere. However all my cards and the car loan were taken out post November 2009 so that might indicate that something happened prior to that!

An update to my original post - I was asked on the application form if i had 'ever' been in an IVA and I said yes and provided all the IVA details - they then wanted an explanation as to the circumstances leading up to the IVA which I also provided. I found out on Friday that I have been approved for the job and start next Monday. So it goes to show that honesty is the best policy and that a successfully completed IVA is not a bar to a job with a bank. Thanks everyone for their comments.
