Just because you have the CC does not mean problems might not arise in the future. Creditors do not always have correct info or up to date records - I know this personally. I have also heard of people occasionally having post IVA issues that required paperwork to clear up.

It's your choice of course but for the sake of an A4 envelope I personally will keep hold of all my documentation, just to be safe.

I would say keep the most important just in case. I've still got all of mine in a folder, but like PJL I would hate my children to find all this later in life.

I've scanned the most important too and that's where I know where it is.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Weirdly I will be telling my daughter all about our IVA when she's old enough to understand money.

I think it's a great warning for her and if she can learn from my mistakes then all the better.

That said it's not in my nature to throw out important documents - no matter how many years are passed lol.

Hi Ash I understand the urge to throw things away but you never know what query may arise. I've just had a query from a debtor whose IVA finished with me a couple of years ago and she needed information to give to a creditor that she didn't have. Luckily I was able to retrieve it for her.

Til's Good idea about explaining issues to children so they have a good understanding of money. I think part of the problem some people have is they are not taught about how to handle finances when they are young. I wasn't (but then I am getting on a bit now!)

Til - my youngest daughter knows all about my IVA and I do mean all about it to the point of meeting Melanie. She was the only one affected by the IVA as she was at school at the time. Seems ages ago now as she's now about to submit her dissertation and graduate (where does the time go) and it has certainly helped her become financially savvy.

It's good to hear Lesley that your daughter benefited from the hindsight of your struggle. I hope that one day our daughter will understand and learn to be savvy with her money too.

Lisa I agree - I was never taught about how to handle money so when credit was thrown at me I had no knowledge of how to handle it. I think too often money is a taboo subject which it shouldn't be and I hope that I can teach & help our daughter to avoid the mistakes I made.

A big, big part of an IVA, I feel, is the (for want of a better word) rehabilitation process you go through to Reconnect with the value of real hard cash. Years of flashing plastic desensitises you to what money is and the value of money.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014

I feel like ashb, I have a real urge to dispose of everything asap as soon as my CC comes through. It actually unsettles me thinking about the huge folder of documentation. Getting rid of everything is part of that clean start.
There is nothing I can think of that cannot be resolved with the completion certificate, propsal and chairmans report. So they will be scanned and files. The rest is going.
