I doubt if many people remember me now, but hi to anyone who does!

I'm a bit out of touch and I'm after some advice. My Mum died last year and I stand to inherit some money, which may or may not be enough to pay off our mortgage. The mortgage is interest only so if we can't pay it in full we would have to remortgage for a small amount. The current one is in my husband's name only and he wouldn't now get a mortgage so it would have to be in my name. I've been discharged from BR for 10 years, so would I still need to go through a broker or would any high street lenders consider me? I'm very out of touch now!

It's all hypothetical at the moment but I'm starting to look into the options - forewarned is forearmed!

Bankruptcy is like an IVA where the Lenders are concerned - they all treat it differently. There are some who would look to lend now so if you were to contact us when the time was right we'd be happy to look at your situation.

Thanks Ryan, we're waiting to find out whether the DWP has a claim on the estate for overpayment of pension credits. Once that's sorted I'll know what we can do and I'll be in touch.

Hi Skippy - hope someone can sort out something for you. I'm sure Ryan or Shaun would be able to help.

It's good to see some familiar faces and I hope everyone is doing OK. It's good to know I can still get good advice here and, if it comes to it, I'll let you know how I get on. I think it's a way off yet as, although Mum's estate is almost sorted, the DWP investigation could take a while as it's a bit like swimming in treacle! I can't believe how slowly they work and how long it takes them to get information from other government locations - there doesn't seem to be much communication at all.

I've often thought over the years how good it would be to be either mortgage free or only have a small mortgage but now it could happen I feel so sad as it's only because I've lost my Mum. Be careful what you wish for...

DWP were pretty good when both my parents died and it was pretty quick.

Hi Skippy, and sorry to hear about your Mum. There may well be some options available, I'd suggest talking to a mortgage expert who will help you investigate all the possibilities.
