I am in the process of seeing whether I am suitable for an IVA I'm speaking to Tina at Melanie Giles after reading such positive feedback about them.
My worry is if an Iva wasn't approved and I had to go Bankrupt would I be likely to get a restriction order meaning I don't get discharged after a year.
I have stopped using all my credit cards now and I am still paying some of them however I have used them recently mainly either drawing cash out to put straight nto my bank to pay the minimum payments/ my mortgage or for shopping and fuel. Also last month I owed a friend rather a lot of money and as I'm struggling to pay her back whilst trying to keep up my payments I let her put some goods onto a store card that I am still paying each month. Any advice would be really appreciated.
Many thanks

Hiya Nikki and try not to worry. Someone will be along soon to answer your questions. Would probably be helpful if you could say how much is owed and what, if any disposable income you have,
xx

Thanks Chris
I owe about 90k half of which is debt from my ex taken out in my name.
I'm also in negative equity with my home. I really don't want to go banrupt but don't think I could afford to pay back more than 25p in the pound and Northern Rock is one of my biggest creditors. I am so ashamed at getting into this much debt.

Don't feel ashamed, we have all been there! The important thing is that you have realised there's a problem and are doing something about it.

Hi Nikki
Please dont feel ashamed, be proud that you are dealing with it and just look forward to being free of it. See what Melanie and Tina say about an iva, they will answer and give advice on the bankrupcy questions you have as well. Try not to worry, be positive. There will be a solution.

Hi nikki

Welcome to the Forum. If you are talking with Melanie's firm then you have taken probably the most positive first step you could on your journey to a debt free life.

It's a great site - and serves almost as a pre-insolvency health check. I am sure that many people, availing of the advice provided by this site and the individuals behind it, could possibly avoid any form of formal insolvency altogether. Just wish some people would take advice at a much earlier stage.
