extra year

Hi all,
I have not posted for a while so I thought I would update you all. I now have 27 payments left - I was supposed to remortgage to release equity but can't get a remortgage...surprise surprise. So I am going for an extra year, well that's if the creditors agree.

I just wanted to give those people in IVA's support and encouragement especially as January is a hard month to get through. Since starting my IVA in 2006 I have had some tough times but have got through them by just facing reality and yes sometimes going without things. I was single when I started out but in 2007 I met a wonderful guy and we are just getting on with our life together!

2007 was an odd year as my dad committed suicide and I am still trying to come to terms with losing him. However meeting my boyfriend has helped SO much. My dad always helped me financially - just a little as he didn't earn much and then had to give up his job due to ill health.

So the journey is a long one but with my family's support (most know about the IVA - close family only)I'm getting there. So if you have just started out my advice would be to set a realistic budget with your IP and try to make every payment. It's NOT easy - I know - but you have to keep focused and realise once it's over hopefully you will have a debt free life......and that's something not many people can say.

Life is NOT extravagant for me but then it never one. My son's father has never paid any maintenance so I have brought him up with very little financial support but I managed to train as a nurse so secured a career well before the start of the IVA. Most of my debt was just spent on living and ok maybe a few holidays. Now I live off very little a month but I have started a Master's course...managed to get a funded place at university where I go once a week..still working full time.

My son is a teenager now and has an apprenticeship which helps with the bills a little as I don't get the much relied upon family allowance. 27 payments is a fair few to go when you were thinking it was all going to be over this year but I'm hoping they fly by.

Thank you for reading my post - I hope it has given people hope and support. Got to go to work soon to pay the mortgage etc!!!! By the way I forgot to mention my boyfriend was made redundant last year so he is hopefully going to train as a nurese in Sept, he is on an access course now until May - the future will hopefully be a lot more financially secure than the last few years.

Hi, I am new here but just read you post. Some times through resding of other people's difficulties and triumphs you get personal inspiration; the realisation that there is hope for me to do the same. I am planing to study (distance learning) for accountancy, to improve the quality of life for me and my daughter.
My ex husband gives me nothing , so like you things can be tough, for my daughter as well as me (not always being able to give her the things that she wants). I have a fab new partner and have made 14 payments on my iva so far. 2010 is going to be good (iI am going to make it good)..I sincerely hope it will be for you too

Hi Jaspersgirl...what a great post and from reading it I would say you will have no problems getting through the remaining term of your IVA.

Its great to see posts from others outlining their experiences of being in an IVA and the added pressures that at time come out of nowhere and are overcome. Its really inspirational and especially since you have crammed so much into your career etc.

Sorry to read about your Father but ones things for sure....I bet wherever he is he will be proud of you.

The best thing about that post is that jaspergirl has found a loving partner to share her life with. Debt problems are generally temporary - even in a six year IVA.

Finding the right life partner is simply the best thing ever - I certainly wouldn't be without my "old grump" - and those of us who have found Mr Right will know that the joy of sharing that partnership is far more important than worrying over a few debts.

But a very inspiring post, and I wish the pair of you the very best of luck for the future and your very rewarding careers.
