hi i have been in an iva for over 2 years and if you have children(i have 4) the allowance you receive for food, clothing etc is no were near enough i can`t even afford to put clothing on their backs. They are badly fed and look like tramps all the time surely the goverment or iva makers or something needs sorted out i dont mind doing without but to see my children lose weight and look like tramps its getting too much.i know we got ourselves in to the debt and i want to pay the creditors as much money back as possible but i have to ask myself what effects these iva`s have on young minds never mind their health.

please can i have more sir [V]

Hi dry debt rot

Does your iva not allow you to have enough to feed and clothe your children? (and yourself of course!)
If not this sounds very harsh and maybe you could have a word with your IP to see if there is anything they could do to help out.

It is awful to think that you have struggled this much in your iva[:(]

I am sure an expert will come along soon but this doesn't sound at all right to me...
Be positive & look after yourself, there are more important things in life than debts....

Best Wishes

Emma x

Hi, if you dont mind me asking could you tell me the allowances you get, i have three children aged 12,10,8 . We have been in iva for only 2 mths,so just wanted to compare. You shouldnt have to live like that and as Emma said it doesnt seem right.

As I keep saying the so called CCCS guidelines, and Common Financial Statement, allow dangerously low provisions for certain areas of expenditure, and bear little relation to the current cost of living.

Hi Dry

I am sorry this must be terrible for you, I couldnt bear to see my kids lose weight, not that they have any to lose to be frank but thats just them. You really need to consider your options (I know it dosent seem that you have many) but paying back creditors at the risk of your sanity and your childrens health is just plain wrong, yes you borrowed the money but at the end of the day its business and they took a chance on you. You must have a rethink and point this out to your IP, its 2008, debtors prisons are no longer the law either in your home or elsewhere. Poverty shouldnt be enforced like this, in my mind its going beyond the point of duty and is entering into punishment.

I wish you the very best of luck, hope you sort something out, best wishes to you and your family.

[:(!]

I'm going to be blunt, tell them to reduce the payments or make you BR !

My expenditure has gone up over the last 6 months by approx
15% food thats up £45 a month
15.5% gas /electric up £12.40
petrol 30% up Around £20 (due to fuel and change of location )
Expenditure up by approx £75 per month

I got a 2.5% wage increase - up £38 a month -before tax

I'm BR with an IPA of £80 pm, Im holding at £80 just now but if after a couple of months things dont get better Im going back to my trustee a ask for a reduction .

IPA & BR are meant to let you keep your head above water ( just ) hungry kids and ill clothed kids shouldnt happen.

Grrrr

Hi Dry,

Sorry to hear of your plight.

Suggest you complete an income and expenditure review with an expert so that your actual costs can compared with the IVA requirement.

Then as appropraite you could approach your IP, they may be able to gain creditors agreement to a variation or if not then you may have to consider bankruptcy - The expert will be able to advise on how this impact on your specific situation.

Whatever route the main priority is the Children, roof over head and priority debts.

All the very best alan
