Having now had my full and final accepted I still have my old BoS business account and my RBS personal account with a cheque/debit card running. Both of these were creditors my debt was indirectly connected to but not directly i.e BoS > Halifax. I have 'tested the water' with both of these accounts, put a bit of money in, written a cheque on the strength of it ... and they still seem to be functioning. But I am not quite confident to put any large sum of money in ... just in case!

Like Kallis my main account now is with Nationwide ... just a basic account with a cashpoint card ... I don't need a cheque book (which I think are going to phased out in the not too distant future anyway) and having to actively find somwwhere to draw money out makes me really stop and think whether I actually need to so has really helped me to rehabilitate my spending patterns. With a combination of my basic Nationwide account and my Cashplus card I am made up with a nice simple financial situation! [:)]

I miss having a chequebook more than a debit card - I'm responsible for collecting the charity money at work each month and I have to put in a cheque request each month and it's a pain! A few other things have happened recently that made me miss a chequebook.

I miss having a cheque book as well, but as time goes on I think I will do very well without it.

All of my regular payments are either DD or SO and so straight out of the bank, I can set up payments either on a regular basis or a one off. I can withdraw cash at any cashpoint (my nearest is 1/2 mile away at Tesco - two birds with one stone!). The only thing I hate is having to go to the branch to pay money in, and I don't think they will ever find a way round that!

Actually, now I've put it in writing, I don't think I'll miss it at all!

Quite agree - much too big for their boots now. They were probably my biggest creditor and we had no sympathy from them at all. When we asked for help, all they suggested was having a further advance on our mortgage (which we stupidly did!), and paying their loan off (which we didn't)
