I have been in my IVA 6 months now.
My son is due to go to University next year.
Obviously he will be claiming Student Loans and I will have to submit my income for him to get the loans.
Does anyone know if the goverment take into account an IVA when allowing him the loan.
Also will I be allowed to give him any assistance.

Don't know about that one. My daughter had already got her loans when we entered into the IVA.

You will only be able to assist if you can do so from money saved from your allowances.

You can try iamsobad - they can only say no. We never assisted our daughter, but then she works part time at Asda so has been able to fund books etc., herself.

Molly what a worrying time that will be for you if he has to go. I don't envy you that.

my son just started university and he was fine with his student loans being accepted.
also we put ourselves down to sponser him and he did get a bigger grant as it seems the more you earn as a sponser the more they allow them (weird i know)
our iva did not affect his application at all.
you dont actualy have to give them any money yourself but they get more of a grant if you put yourself forward.
he does not work part time or anything so he is just living off his grant.
not sure how this will affect my iva as he was classed as a dependant untill he left colledge after doing his a levels.
he still lives at home as the uni best for his course is in our home city
cc received 6th January 2014 now upwards and onwards

I got my contributions allowed. I argued that as I earn too much for him to get any grant he has, and more importantly th Government has an expectation of parental help. It's not his fault we messed up. I was allowed £200 a month to give him (which I do and some)

My daughter won't be eligible for EMA and I would obviously like to encourage her to carry on with further education as she is very academic, like others say it's not their fault the parents have messed up, so I would like to maybe apply to give her a little extra at review time and hope this is viewed favourably.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

I think the earnings limit was around £50K joint income. After this, no grant at all.

I do feel awful that daughter has had to pretty much fund herself, but no way could we afford to help.

Her second year at Uni she did stay in halls and we bought (on the plastic of course) all the stuff she needed for there.

She came back to mum and dad the year after though - it's cheaper to live here!

I'll have to look into the earnings limit, mind it's a couple of years for her yet so you never know may well have won the lotto by then.....

My daughter started Uni in Sept this year. My IVA had no beaaring on her application process and my payments weren't taken into consideration anywhere on the form. It just goes by your joint gross pay if you have a partner.
I must add, that even though she lives in, and has to survive on about £41.50 a week. I still support here with various things. Toiletries, food, travel, trips to name a few. This is really making me struggle. Will I be able to still show this as if she lived at home when my 1st year review comes up.
The only thing I appear to have saved on is my electric bill has gone down by about £6.00 a week.(No hair dryer's and curling tongs etc used every day)

I won't mention that to Dave - he might confiscate my hairdryer and straighteners!

Oh there's a few more things than that. TV's and computors left on additional showers, cooking at different time to us. The list is endless but I do miss her.
