Have recently started an IVA - Settled and payments started, but have had a call from First Direct my bank with no debt outstanding, who have cancelled my account with 30 days notice. Who will let me open a new bank account

Hi
Im with thinkbanking they will accept all can be opened over the phone, ac no within minutes . Take a look at the website www.thinkbanking.co.uk and look at the managed ac doesnt matter who your creditors are. Separates bill money from yours and has a maestro card £12.50 month charge but covers you for any charges which are near imposs to get and if you take into consideration the cost of a prepaid debit card not much difference.
Hope this helps

You can also try the Co-operative Bank, Natwest Step Account (which both have debit cards), Abbey or Nationwide. I think Halifax will also consider you, although I would only recommend the Halifax as a last resort!

The Nationwide offer a basic account called the Flex account. Make sure you go into the branch to open this though and don't try and apply over the net.

Yes, please go in the branch! 3 weeks ago I applied for a basic account online with Nationwide and it was accepted. I took my ID into the branch, the dozy muppet on 'Customer Services' looked at it and asked me what I wanted her to do with it so I explained what it was and she said she'd send it in the internal post. I phoned them yesterday as I still hadn't had a card or account number and they told me that they hadn't received my signature, but had received the ID! My friend opened an account in the branch and was given her account details the same day!

Welcome to the Forum Benny,

Just to let you know that Lloyds also do a basic bank account called the classic account, you might want to try them. This is unless they are one of your creditors.
