Does anyone know if Alliance and Leicester are fine with IVAs, I'm in the process of entering into 1... does anyone have any experience with them?
I am also wanting to open a Coop account, can i get an account with a debit card if i'm credit worthy if i dont take any credit facilities with it? and will they allow me to keep it once entered into the IVA?
I have an HSBC account that i just opened and looks like i will have to close it which is a shame. does anoyone know how they find out that u are in an IVA if you dont tell them?

cheers

Hi clar30, I'm sorry but I don't know how sympathetic A & L are to IVA's - do you have any debts with them?

You can apply for a Cashminder account with the Co-op - this is their most basic account with no credit facilities but you get a Visa Electron debit card. I have been able to open one and I'm bankrupt.

HSBC and First Direct monitor the online Insolvency Register.

Regarding Lloyds TSB, if you have no debts with them you should be ok to keep your debit card. I kept mine when I was in an IVA with no problems.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

As far as I am aware both Alliance and Leicester and TSB have accounts suitable for people in IVAs as long as you don't owe them money.

thanks guys.. much appreciated,
for the coop account, if i qualify for a higher level account, is it still safe to accept it as long as i dont take any credit along with it?
looks like HSBC is the only 1 I have to worry about at the moment.
I'll probably go to the Coop branch and open an account next week or so..

thanks again..

Yes you can accept the account as long as the COOP knows that you are in an IVA (so they can't use that as an excuse to close the account at a later date) and that there are no credit facilities attached to the account!

Hello Clar30,

I dont see a problem with accepting a higher level account, as you already mentioned just as long as their are no credit facilities attached it should be fine.

Good advice from Oliver, its always best to be honest and up front.

Hi

I am with Alliance & Leicester and I am in an IVA. I opened the account before I entered the IVA (making sure I had no credit facility). I have no debt with them.

Hi There,

my friend has been in an IVA for 12 months before she entered the IVA process she opened another bank accuont with alliance and leicester she has a normal debit card and cheque book, she just advised them she did not want an overdraft or any credit cards and they have been fine.
