Well I posted all my letters to creditors last week advising them of my financial difficulties, to be honest assumed most would be ignored until I missed a payment but no. Received a letter in the post today from HSBC saying they'd tried to contact me but couldn't, could I ring them didn't give anymore information. Thought I'd get through a week or so more before anything would happen...

From what I've read here HSBC can be a right pain. Do I just ignore the letter and wait for them to try again and run up their phone bill or phone them hoping they have some miraculous solution to my debt problems!

I used to be with First Direct(part of the HSBC group) and they were the best of all the creditors I had to deal with to be honest. They were the only ones who froze the interest on my credit card. Yes, they did insist I changed mortgage and suspended my bank account, but they gave me 12 months to clear the overdraft and honoured the direct debits against my salary until I had chance to change it over.

Give them a ring and see what they want. If they start pushing just say you are looking at your options, be polite but firm.

Hi Louiseh
Just remind me if you are actually proposing an IVA ? or are you simply advising your creditors that you are in difficulty ?
If you are proposing an IVA then you can just inform your creditors of the fact and pass on the company name and address and your IPs name.
If you are negotiating direct then you will need to answer calls and letters asap.
good luck
