When my Dad used to run the London marathon, there was always a spaghetti tent and all the runners would have a big bowl before the race.

I think I've heard of that detox DM, isn't it more of a spiritual cleansing?

The thought of eating a big bowl of spaghetti before a race makes me shudder!

I thought you weren't suppose to exercise immediately after eating?

I'm sure I would throw up!

Yes Viki, it is more of a spiritual cleanse.
I have 5 weeks to the half marathon so the timing for this is perfect, I will then have 3 weeks of solid training with lots of porridge! At the moment I take 3 hours to run the half marathon, I'm aiming to get that down to 2hrs 15 mins. If I can shed at least a stone and a half by then, it will help me enormously with my goal.

Good luck DM, with the cleanse and the run. Please let us know how you get on with both. X

A stone and a haf in 5 weeks sounds an awful lot to lose DM in such a short space of time - be careful you dont leave yourself with no energy for the run with all the dieting beforehand! [;)]

I lost 1st 5lbs in 3 weeks on my pre op yoghurt and bovril diet - but that was under strict medical supervision, and I was (and still am at the moment) obese so the initial weight came off quickly (which it will when you go from stuffing your face with everything and anything to eating virtually nothing!)

I watched Supersize v Superskinny last week and one of the women was a marathon runner. She was living on a diet of soup and vegetables, but when they convinced her to have more protein her times improved quite a lot and after 6 months was ranked 9th in the UK in the marathon.

I didn't watch the programme, but I did see her. She looked like a walking (or should that be running!) skeleton!

Not a good look, and totally unhealthy.

I know I want to lose weight - but not to that extent.

I'll be happy to be a size 12-14 again as being that thin definitely wouldn't suit me!

I'm a 16 at the moment, but if I don't do something now it won't be long before I'm an 18! I managed to do some of my Steps DVD this afternoon which half killed me!

I'm still a 20/22 at the moment - veering more towards the latter!

I think I'll stick with the dog walking!

I know if I get to an 18 it won't be long until I'm a 20 and so on. At my thinnest I was a small 12 bottom and 12-14 top.

Surprisingly I actually enjoy the DVD, which I didn't think I would. I also didn't think it would be the hardest DVD I'd ever done!

At my thinnest - 20 years ago, I was a 10-12 and had long blond hair!
