I went for an eye test today, they call me regular due to brother having Glaucoma so my eye tests are free and I attend regular. I knew my sight had deteriorated and now find I need glasses. £150 approximately, I don't have a penny contingency so sadly can't afford them, maybe when things are caught up I'll be able to save up but at this rate it just won't happen.

Sorry moan about money over.

These things do happen Lesley unfortunately. I hope you manage to find some money from somewhere for them.

Oh Lesley, there always seems to be something tugging at our purse strings eh?

Do you have to wear the glasses for work? If so doesn't your work subsidise the glasses?
With us, we get a free eye test and free glasses up to the price of £45 or we can deduct the £45 off a dearer pair. To be honest the £45 ones are ok....well thats what I tell myself [:D]

Hope things take a turn for the better soon xx

there are some good sites on the internet for cheap glasses. www.glassesdirect.co.uk are one but if you google glasses there should be others. What in vision express is £150 there will be something similar for less than half this.

Boots have very good deals at the moment on glasses to members of their "Health Club". I'm not at all sure how I managed to be a member - certainly didn't pay anything or do anything remotely "healthy" (a good cough in the morning is the only exercise I get all day).

What great ideas, I'm not thinking of going anywhere else but the optician who tested my eyes! I'm sure I can half the price quoted! Looking a bit more positive.

Julie, work do offer free eye test and a bit towards your glasses - not sure how much though but you have to travel to where the main campus is, although we work for the College we're based elsewhere and you have to use their preferred optician.

I will go have a look around as I can't sleep yet again!

Hi Leslie
I had something similar in February when I needed a riser recliner as I couldn't get to bed. I asked for a payment break and was granted one without hassle over the phone ... mebbe this would work for you?

I've heard good things about Glasses Direct, although I must admit I like to be able to try mine on first! I must be very lucky with work - they pay £75 towards glasses.

Don't forget you can take the prescription and go elsewhere to buy the glasses.

When I wore them I liked to try them before I bought any - not all shapes suit me.

I would always try to find a cheaper opticians for the frames and lenses though.

I normally get mine in Specsavers as they are always doing 2 for 1 deals.

I slipped up last time though as I went for the reactions lenses instead and they annoyed me so much I ended up paying another £70 to get normal lenses put in!

I must admit my glasses were from the designer section, my excuse being that as work paid £75 I didn't have to find all of the money myself!
