The only bones we give our small dog are lamb bones, and not very often as that (they can have a detrimental affect on his digestive system!)

The bigger dog we wouldn't dare as she has a habit of swallowing things whole!

Lots of my friends feed a BARF diet, I don't - I did try but can't afford it!

Hi Everyone,
What lovely posts - we are a load of animal softies lol!! [:)]
I had my last dog cremated when he passed away and have his ashes buried in my garden. There's a lovely red rose plant where he's buried so every summer the roses remind me of him.[:I]
Well the chewing continues..... [:(]
Yesterday I did a 12 hour volunteer shift with the Ambulance Service and the pup obviously missed me and was bored. I came home to utter devastation!! [:(]
There was chewed toilet roll everywhere - he obviously wants to be the Andrex puppy!! My new blusher pearls are no more, a cuddly Nemo from the bathroom was releived of it's stuffing and I had to retreive one shoe and two slippers from the garden!! [:)]
Happy days....... [:)]

He probably was bored if he was on his own for a long time.

Maybe close the bathroom door next time!

You will have to be careful of what he eats - he may end up being very ill!

Chardonnay please do not take this post the wrong way but is the dog alone for 12hrs? That is far too long for any dog whether adult or puppy to be left alone. You puppy is bored, he requires stimulating and socialising with all aspects of life, he will learn with time and patience what is expected of him but cannot do this alone. Dogs should never be left alone for any lengthy period of time. Is there someone who can dog sit for you nearby?

I know it's difficult, I'm lucky that I only ever work a maximum 4 hour shift and they're always around my feet tripping me up or lying on my foot giving me a dead leg!

We're fortunate that hubby is at home 24/7 and if we go out, the dogs are not alone for more than about 3 hours and that isn't very often.

They are shut into the living room and anything that can be eaten is moved out of the way!

Hi All,
The dogs (all three of them) were on their own yesterday - we have a cat flap so they come and go into the garden at lesuire. It's unusual for the OH and I to be out all day and when we are a neighbour pops over to make sure they have water and are OK.
We both work full time (needs must) but my shifts are usually only 8 hours. The dogs have lots of toys and are usually good at amusing themselves, so please don't think I am a bad dog owner!![:)]

Never thought that for a minute Chardonnay!

The pup is obviously bored though at the moment. Give a local dog trainer a ring and see what they suggest.

Oh Chardonnay I never wanted you to think that at all, I'm not good at wording things or saying things sometimes and often come across as abrupt to lots of people. Sorry if you thought that, I was only trying to give my experience with dogs as I've worked with them for 35yrs plus.

xx

No offense taken to any comments - I was just worried people would think I don't care for my dogs and I do,I love them to bits!! [:)][:)]. I am a born worrier as you will all know!![:I]
We're going to try training classes, if we can afford them. The trouble is the two dogs are over 2 yrs old and they were never walked or trained proir to comming to me last August.Beleive me they have a charmed life here compared to what they were used to- shut in the kitchen and only a small yard to go out to). here they have a nice garden, lots of toys and plenty of onconditional love.
Thanks to everyone for the helpful himts and suggestions on how to stop the chewing....I'll let you all know how we get on and to add humour I'll let you know what gets chewed next......[:)]
Watch this space, it's only a matter of time... [:)]

I wish you lived nearer too!
What do you do with your dogs when you visit Manchester?
We did do puppy class and then she came to us for a morning. We bought halti's and Kong's.My puppy just chewed both.
I have bought her a fitted harness yesterday. This seems to have done the trick. She's not keen at all, but she can't pull me over.Believe me I'm no light wieght so the dogs very strong!
She was off swimming in a river today.I swear she was laughing and giggling.I've now got one smelly labrador

Typical Lab I guess you have Cat cant' resist water and rolling in smelly things! lol

When I come to Manchester my neighbour cares for my dogs, they are let out in the morning before I leave, she comes in at lunchtime and basically just sits with them inside for half hour and then they're out again until tea time when they're fed and put in again before she comes back for half hour at 9.30pm and puts them to bed (well not literally!). She lets them out in the morning and we're home by lunch time as we only ever stay one night normally. They did used to go to kennels for £7.50 per night but nothing different there to the way they're treated by my neighbour and beacause of Cockers eye problems it's best he stays in his own surroundings which is why we tried it.

We always used to put our dogs into kennels when we went away (dim and distant memories there!)

Nowadays daughter always takes holiday from work and she and her boyfriend stay at home and look after them for us.

Works out great as we can have a worry free holiday and they have the house to themselves!
