How do you differentiate between a cash gift or a windfall? I know it's a long way off yet (or maybe not!) but at christmas both our sets of parents give us cash that comes to more than the £500 allowed in IVA. Are we allowed to keep all of it or just the first £500? We don't want to tell them about IVA so wem can't say don't give us the cash this year! Or I suppose we could think of something we need instead but at the mo there is nothing.

A Christmas gift is not a windfall, so don't worry about that.
