oh yes, you must go... you just know it will start aching as soon as the dentist locks their doors otherwise! Try the solpadeine though, it really does work. Mine does't hurt now, the temp filling is working its magic...

Thinking of you Skip - hope everything is ok.

Sorry, I've just got in from work.

The dentist thinks I've got an infection either in my sinus (as the tooth is right next to the sinus and I've had a cold) or in the root of the tooth itself, but it wasn't clear from the xray. She's given me a prescription for antibiotics, but told me to take them only if the pain is unbearable, which suits me as antibiotics usually give me an upset stomach!

I've got a checkup on 12th January and she'll see how the tooth is then and talk to me about my options. She did mention that I can see a specialist to save the tooth, but that'll cost £600 - £1000, so that's not an option!

Thanks for all your kind words xxx

Hope the antibiotics kick in straight away - at that cost I don't think I'd bother saving the tooth Skip [:0]

I'm with you there Julie.

I hope the antibiotics help and I would have a good stash of painkillers ready as well.

I think I would resign myself to losing the tooth!

I'm already resigned to losing it! £46 to have it out or £1k to keep it, with no guarantee it'll work. Hmmmmm.....

I'm not taking the antibiotics unless it gets more painful as the dentist said it may well get better on it's own - fingers crossed!

What are you like Skip [:)] you don't like taking tablets do you? I would take the antibiotics to hurry it along...mind you I take tablets too easy.

Antibiotics always give me an upset tummy, so I have to be at death's door before I take them! She did tell me to take them only if the pain was really bad so I'm only following medical advice [:D]

Seriously, yesterday I would have taken them, but it isn't as painful today

Ouch!, you poor thing Skip,...Root canal treatment is a nasty and expensive[:0] word in our household at the moment as well !..Anyway, if I was you I'd take the antibiotics if it does get a lot worse for you as this will kill the bacteria stuff causing the pain.[;)].Hope you're ok tomorrow though and can enjoy your xmas dinner..[:)]

worriedhalftodeath, I'm glad that the temporary filling is working its magic for you for the moment..

The strange thing is it doesn't hurt to eat so I'm alright there!

I had the root canal filling a few years ago and I wish I hadn't bothered - I've had more problems since I had it done than I did before!

That's interesting you saying that Skip..Hubby had root canal treatment done a few years back, blinking expensive it was at the time as well...Then he went for check-up a month back and they say he needs more work doing on it as the tooth has crumbled...£450 in total to have it all done, including x-rays and scale & polish![:0]..Yet at the moment, touch wood he's not in any pain with it and wouldn't have known he had the problem if he hadn't gone for the check up!

They left part of the root in mine so even with a crown I've still got problems! It also turned out that the tooth is cracked above the gum line so there's not a lot left for them to do with it now. It's one of the big back teeth so I think I can live without it.

I hope hubby's tooth is ok. If I was him I'd leave well alone until it hurt!

ooh!!, you poor thing, no wonder you're in so much pain!...luckily with hubby, they did remove the root!..I'd be inclined to agree with you there Skip to just have it removed as you seem to have had a long battle with it!...hubby wants to get the work done but it will take a long time for us to be able to save up and get the work done anyway...By that time, he could well be in pain with it anyway and he may just want it removing by then! His is the upper right molar!

Mine is the upper left - between us we have a full set!

I definitely want mine out, although I might ask to keep the crown - it was nearly £300 after all!
