I've only ever had one thing go missing and it seems that the seller disappeared - loads of us left negative feedback! It was only a book that I paid a couple of quid for so I didn't worry too much.

I have a friend who uses e-bay alot, and as worked out how many seconds before the items end when to place a bid so he know his is the last bid - I will ask him and let you know, from memory i think he said 22 seconds.

Also he told me their is some kind of software that you can get to automatically do the last bid, but I havent heard anybody else ever mention this

Just bought my second item on E-Bay - a CD offered on the "auction" option. I was the first bidder (£2.99 !!!!!) about 5 days ago.

Sat there glued to the computer for the last ten minutes of the auction this evening - and there were no other bids at all!!! No fast finger required. Obviously E-Bay auctions can be very unpredictable.

Cant believe I got the CD for £2.99 ( plus £1.25 p +p). Bargain!!!!

That will be my last purchase for this month though.

Thanks again for everyones advice and comments.

Hi all

I have had a couple of negative experiences selling on ebay recently..[:(]

I had a clear out and listed items and they all sold, most sales went though fine as people paid straight away through paypal or postal order;
Problems I had were:
1) A buyer paying by cheque which bounced and caused me problems in my account. I have left this and not doe anything about this at present
2) A buyer winning and not paying within my stated 7 days. I have tried to contact them numerous times with no response and have filed a non-payment dispute with ebay but not heard anything. Does anyone know what happens if they do not respond to this?
3) A buyer brought and paid for an item through paypal which I sent straight away by normal first class postage as buyer did not want to pay for recorded service I offered. Then a week later I had an email from paypal saying that this buyers bank had 'refused' the tansaction and they took the money back off me. I rang them up as thought i was protected but as I only had a certificate of posting and not recorded delivery tracking number they would do nothing. The seller has not responded to any message I have sent and they are not going to pay now they have the item I suspect.

Having said all that I have had many hassle free transactions on ebay with buying and selling odd bits but it all seems to have gone a bit wrong lately.[:(]

Hello emma t -

I can share your negative experiences!!!

My first purchase was last Friday ("Buy It Now") - yet today I had an e-mail from the seller saying "Sorry to all prospective buyers - I have been on holiday for two weeks and will send your purchase next Monday". Ha Ha - hope this is not a sign of things to come!!!

Still - early days yet!!!!

Well the trousers are going back on EBay - they're ankle swingers! They say the are regular length but they're shorter than my other trousers!

Oh well, you win some you lose some!

thats the only problem. You can't try before you buy, which is always a risk...

Its ok for selling stuff, but i'm learning my lesson on buying, i've still got 100% feedback (over 500), so i think i'm a good seller.....

to OPTIMIMIST12 e-bay can be frustrating at times with this, there are lots of instances where sellers have surrogate buyers who either help to push the price up or pitch in at the last minute to stop you getting bargain. top tip is to decide your top dollar price the item is worth to you and place that as your bid, e-bay system will then automatically add a pound to your last bid each time someone gazumps you upto your top bid. Its worked for me a few times. but dont drink and bid at same time you may add too many zeros and get a lemon for a lot of money[:)] also beware that what you see may not be the real mackoy, theres alot of fakes about.
