I have been in an IVA now for 21 months which has run very smoothly in all this time.

I have just left a privatly rented property and am now going to be renting through an estate agent, who of course will be completing a credit check with the company Homelet.

Financialy I feel I am very stable and I now earn a good wage but am concerned that the IVA will go against me and I will not be able to rent this property.

I have spoken to my IVA company who have agreed to provide a reference if necessssary to confirm that I have stuck to the terms of the IVA and made all payments.

Do you think this will be sufficent?

I would be grateful for any advice.

Thank you, there was a section on the form which asked about credit problems so i completed that with the details, so just waiting to hear from the agent.

Many thanks.

some agencies and landlords are okay with it, some aren't.

As soon as i chose my flat the first form i had to fill in with personal details asked re bankruptcy and IVA's. I was honest but also quite lucky that in the end my father acted as a guarantor (again). I've never even been late with a rent payment...

There have been a few people on here that have been fine with just references, some not so lucky . Fingers x'd for you :o)

As said on the previous post, just be upfront with them and you shouldn't go far wrong :o)

Hi Yellow Rose, we just got accepted for a rented property. We were honest about the IVA and the letting agents said it shouldn't be a problem as we'd had it for more than 2 years. The credit checks were with FCC Paragon and when we double checked if everything was fine they said yes and we move in next Friday! Hope all goes as well for you!!

Hi,

We have just rented a privately owned property through a letting agent who used homelet to check us out. We were completely honest with our situation, and it all came back fine. Good luck

Hi Yellowrose

After 3 years in my IVA I had to move rented property and I was upfront with the agent and told them about my IVA and that I would probably fail the credit check. The landlord was fine with this because we had good references from our last rental. However the letting agents put the credit check through with Homelet and it actually came back fine. I did feel better that I had told them though as you never know when these things come back to bite you and it also meant there was no clause in the contract about entering in to an IVA or BR.

Thanks for your replies everyone, it just makes you feel like you've commited a crime, i hate having to mention the IVA but i agree with what your all saying about being honest and up front. The mad thing is apart from the IVA i would be an ideal candidate for a tenant,Im a professional earn a good wage and would be able to supply as many positve references as needed, i just hope they focus on these things and not the IVA!! :-(
