Hey nicsy, doesn't seem quite right, hopefully Ang can let you know of her experience. Melanie is at the awards ceremony tonight but she may help later. Viki X

That is correct nicsy - and do make sure that they arrange a face to face meeting with your husband as that is mandatory in all self-employed cases and actually really important. Stay on the forum and let us know how you get on.
HI MELANEY, YOU STATE THAT IT IS MANDATORY FOR SELF-EMPLOYED PEOPLE HAVE A FACE TO FACE MEETING WHEN APPLYING FOR THE IVA PROCESS, I WAS NOT ADVISED OF THIS WITH MCCAMBRIDGE DUFFY, ALTHOUGH MY IVA HAS BEEN APPROVED LAST WEEK, EVERYTHING WAS DONE EITHER BY PHONE OR POST.

In the good ole days when civil servants were actually reasonably well paid (yes I am that old that I remember those days!!)if you went bankrupt you would have automatically lost your job...they used to employ people to check the published lists but now days you can go bankrupt and still retain your civil service status though you should report it to your HR section and you will not be allowed to work in a post involving public monies. IVAs are viewed pretty much the same way so technically you should declare it to your HR section if you work in a financial role.....which most are in HMRC!

Problems tend to arise more when it comes to security clearance should you move departments....IVAs are fine for normal CTC clearance but DV or anything higher and it could pose problems. Best being up front and honest about your financial dealings should you ever need to be security cleared as it will go in your favour!!

For the record I am a serving middle management civil servant in an IVA and also still retain responsibility for departmental budgets.

i dont think i am going to tell them ang!

will have to face the music if it ever crops up and plead ignorant!
i would think most of those i work with are up to their eyes in debt!
why would they see me now as a bad risk? i in a way in am in a better position than i have been for a long time, at least i have enough money to pay my bills and my iva, before i had more going out than coming in!

Thats exactly the reason why I am so worried about my office being informed. Everyone knows everyones business and there are no secrets at all!!! I would be so so embarrased if it got out as it would spread like wildfire. To those who have replied that are civil servants, did you get told your IVA information was being sent to somebody in the insolvency dept in Worthing?

hi nicsy

yes it is sent somewhere to go on the insolvency register! having said that mine and husbands names are still not on there! i am worrying about that now in case the reason its not on is because big brother from my works has found out about my iva and i am going to be sacked! o god there is always something to worry about!

I'm not telling work. If they find out then I'll deal with it. Vetting is always a problem and I have struggled with the finance bit before - we'll see.

Do what you feel is right for you - I'm with Barb.

Like I said you only need to inform your HR section if you are an authorised officer for the branch/department or you have reqular dealings with public monies i.e. in HMRC or Jobcentre Plus you make payments to customers or receive payments in on behalf of the Crown.

Failure to inform your HR sections in these instances can result in disciplinary action and loss of employment.

If you have no contact with finances then you do not need to tell anyone and it is no ones business!!
