Hi All

I am leaving my job at the end of this month (Friday) to start a new job next week.

My employer normally pays me by bacs on the 28th of every month, which is today. Well, I checked my account and it hasn't gone in!

Anyway, I phoned the office and they said they will be paying me by cheque as it is my last salary and they needed to deduct my expences float. (Iam a sales rep)

Oh my god!!! I will not receive the cheque until tomorrow hopefully and will bank it straight away. But my problem is cheques do not clear straight away and I have my IVA payment amongst other bills coming out of my account on the 1st June.

Any ideas what I should do!! Does anyone know if the bank will pay my direct debits with the cheque not cleared. Obviously I cant do overdrafts etc.

I am stressed!!!!

Thanks for listening.
Sharon

Hi Sharon - your company shouldn't have done this without previously discussing it with you. The cheque should have been sent to you a few days ago to allow for clearance by the 28th. I would call your bank asap to advise -last thing you want is for the dd to be rejected and incur charges. This will prob happen as you have to have cleared funds before dd can go. If the bank will not give you leeway I would cancel the dd and set them up again when the funds are cleared. Contact all the companies involved to advise. Your IVA company will prob take a debit card payment when the funds are cleared anyway. Afterall you intend to pay but just not on the normal day.

Hope this helps.

Explain your in an IVA - not allowed to have an overdaft. It shouldn't be a major problem and like I said at the end of the day you can cancel all dd.

Try to be brave and assertive x

stop all your dd that are to come out including the iva payment they wont pay them with an uncleared cheque .get in touch with the ip firm and tell them the circumstances they would accept a check or just double your standing order payment for next months iva payment

Hey Sharon, talk to the bank when you pay the cheque in and show them it is from your employer, they may let the direct debits go out before the funds clear. I paid an insurance cheque in recently and my bank were happy to pay against it. I might have just been lucky! Worth a go. Viki X

Hi all.
Thanks for the replies.
I have just spoken to my bank (Yorkshire Bank) and they said that the dd will be refused as the cheque will not clear until Wednesday.

But as I got to speak to the lady at my local bank she said she would refund all the charges that are applied automatically and I would just need to pay the standing orders by debit card on Wednesday. And she said the dd's will be represented in about 5 days after they are returned.

So hopefully I will be OK, but it is just stressfull.

I've not met one yet! Mine have all been sticking to the script and been really horrible when I have spoken to them. Glad I don't have to anymore.

I wonder how they would feel if they ever ended up in the position most of us are in?

Reminds me of those Horlicks adverts - 'How does he sleep at night?'

I had a call today from the Halifax at 8.20am. They call me all the time. I explain everytime that I am going through IVA process and a meeting should be called within the next few weeks... They then become agressive... but this guy on the phone this morning was really nice and said he would put my account on hold for 21 days! Nice chap! THEN>>>>> I got a call from Halifax about an hour ago about one card and then again about 5 minutes for the other card but they couldn't put the account on hold???? the mind boggles?

are we creating the credit crunch? or did the banking system create it by giving us all this credit? then pulling the rug from under us?

Right hand and left hand are the words that spring to mind Suzanne!

I don't know who is to blame for the credit crunch. It seems to be a bit like the chicken and the egg. The banks throw money at us, we borrow up to the hilt then they change their minds. On the other hand, we ask for more and more money which they give us, then we can't pay and they pull the rug from under us!!!!!!!!! The end result is the same no matter how you look at it
