Hi, I am in a similar position to Natasha.NR rejected our initial offer. We have since found out they feel the debt is payable via DMP over 18 years!! They are not considering that I have other creditors each wanting a slice of a very small pie. DMP for a short time may be ok but long term I will look at BR as I cannot bear the thought of another 18 more years living like this.

[:0]18 yrs is a very long time meash, and as it was pointed out to me when i was thinking of a dmp, there is no 100% guarantee that all creditors will stop interest and charges.if my iva hadnt have been approved i too would have been facing a very lengthy dmp, about 16yrs i think.so i think i would've definitely chosen br over dmp and made a fresh start.i wish you lots of luck and hope you find the right way forward for you and your family.x [:)]
please visit my blog http://tori.blogs.iva.co.uk/ a second chance..

Hi everyone i have spoken to our ip and basically they said they refused it because of the length of time we have left on our together mortgage 21 years and they didn`t think we were over indebted even though we owe
£133000 on our mortgage (house only worth 135000 now)
£29000 together loan
and about £30000 credit cards and smaller loans
i want to go br but hubby won`t doing my head in
do you think nr will put second charge on house even though we have negative equity

I'm sorry to hear that Natasha. Why is your hubby so against going BR? Yes it is a scary thought, but it's a fresh start, and nowhere near as bad as it sounds. Could you get him to look at some of the blogs on here?

You could always get a second opinion from another IP. In my experience NR will have seem something that does not make an IVA fit in their opinion to have taken the stance that they have.

Hi Tasha, sorry to hear your news. Why don't you contact Melanie direct and see if there's anything she can do? You've got nothing to lose by having another IP opinion.

Good luck x

Please let us know how you get on speaking to Melanie. I think that whatever has influenced NR's decision re your case, will be the same for me.

If you go to another Ip,does the original Ip get any payment from you, considering the amount of work they will have done in putting your proposal forward??

One for Mel,methinks.
Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.
Continuing to rebuild our credit worthiness.

If a proposal is represented by another firm, there may be the need to pay the former IP for work done if this was in the terms of the engagement with them. Natasha would need to check this with the firm concerned.
