Hello
I consider this to be a complex mess of a situation (you however might not?)
We emigrated from the UK to New Zealand a little over one year ago. At the time of our leaving we had debts (all unsecured credit cards/loans - 5 in total) which for whatever reason we decided not to inform our Creditors that we were leaving. We put money aside in our UK account to pay these debts for a period of 1 year whilst we got established. That year has now come and gone so too I would imagine has the money to pay things off in our UK account (not checked, too scared to do so).
We are also looking at debts UK to NZ conversion that have nearly tripled.
Please don't judge us on our motives to leave the UK. What I will say is that we didn't do it to run from our obligations.
As the year has progressed that notion of payback slipped away and the Ostrich Effect well and truly kicked in.
We can't pay off our debts and I'm stuck.
We have always been able to settle our obligations but this is soemthing else now and it isn't going away.
I received an email from my folks in the UK (just the other day) telling me that someone claiming to be from the Postal Office had mail for me and needed my address.
I reckon this is the start of the big track down.
That's most of the sorry tale I guess.
Does anyone have anything in the way of guidance that I can look at and make decisions on.
I appreciate that I am miles away but my obligations are very much UK based.
Thanks in advance for any support.

Hey PixielPilot, welcome to the forum. Could you post a few details, how much debt? How much you think you can pay a month. It will help the experts to advise you. X

I am dealing with two clients in NZ at the moment - and you are only an e-mail away really!

You might be better to address the UK debts rather than avoid them, so a chat with a UK based insolvency practitioner to explore options would perhaps be a sensible first move.

Hi
Thanks very much for your prompt response.
Thanks also for the initial information.
I will need to discuss all of this with my wife firstly as I sent my brief outline to gauge reaction to our situation as much as anything else.
I hope to be in touch soon.
Regards

Can I ask a question regarding our situation.
Would our creditors in the UK require details of employment?
Our employers/address etc?
Thanks

The thing is you are addressing this now - I wish I had done this a long time ago then I wouldn't be in this mess now - well done to you and I hope you contact a quality IP (there are some fab ones on this site) and that they can take the first step in helping you.

Good luck and keep us all posted, we would never judge you in any way, just offer you advice and most of all support on your journey. Welcome to the forum and your journey to being debt free x
When will this all end?

Hi there,

Why don't you give Melanie Giles an email? She is an Insolvency Practitioner who posts on here and comes highly recommended.

Your employers name will be detailed in the IVA proposal, but there will be absolutely no contact with them be either your IP or the creditors.

I can back Melanie up here. My employers and my work colleagues know nothing of my IVA, and I have no intention of telling any of them.

Just wanted to wish you good luck PP and to say well done on taking the responsible steps to address your situation ... I am sure that this will prove to be a weight off your shoulders.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on ... Melanie, does this mean that we will have to hold some Frugal Friends meetings in NZ? [:D]

Thanks Melanie that does provide me with a good deal of relief to know that my employers will not be contacted.
Once again thanks to all forum members who have taken the time to add their comments.
It does make me/us feel better dealing with this situation.
Kind regards
