Hi leggyblonde

Most high street banks will allow you to open a basic account - just choose one you don't already owe any money to. From experience clients of mine have succesfully opened accounts at Lloyds, NatWest, Alliance & Leicester, Halifax and Nationwide.

Good luck in your search.
