Child benefit is never taken into account for the purposes of IPA, so fight your corner if this happens.

Hi Fudge glad to see you are back

Jane, this is madness as everyone else has advised they do not (can not) take your chid benefit or any working tax credit for income purposes when calculating your I&E. And why do they keep saying they will be taking it from hubbys wage, ????.

Jane I dont know how far you have escalated this but I would keep going until you get someone with some common sense

Good luck

No news yet on the BI still waiting its been ages since I sent in the valuations and redemption statments. So still not sure, on a purely selfish note I am hoping the house prices crash over night, but not to avoid paying anything just if the BI comes back at the absolute max, I may have to walk away.
Other than that all is ok, work is soooo busy at the moment which is best i think although worry that the full realisation of bR has not quite hit me yet and with my current workload could be like bonfire night when/if it hits.

Has the OR given you any idea how long until you receive notification of the BI amount?

How are things outside the world of BR with you? Unfortunately I have not kicked my chocolate addiction I think I may need to go into rehab[:I]

I am just finding this whole bankruptcy business very stressful! I thought I had researched it to death before we did it but things just seem to be going wrong, I am not at all confident in the OR we have. Not sure if it’s just an assistant or not but at our interview he told us that ours was the most complicated case he had dealt with! Well, that did not exactly fill me with confidence. He did not know anything about Tax Credit overpayment, he did not know whether this was written off in bankruptcy or not, I carried on paying it but now I have been told we do NOT have to pay it back, (it IS written off and the tax office will make a claim in our bankruptcy, they have told me)

The OR assistant told hubby his Nil Tax Code was for a full 12 months from bankruptcy, I was under the impression it was for the tax year.

Then there is the business with the IPA and Child Benefit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He has disallowed my prescriptions, I get 4 items a month, he says I should be on benefits so should get them free, but I have tried for benefits and I am not entitled to any, so I DO have to pay for the prescriptions.

I do not work now but I got a letter from the Tax Office saying I had a Nil Tax Code applied and I work at such a place, well, this was a place I had NEVER worked at!!!! I rang them but they said they cannot discuss it with me as I failed the security questions, I can only presume the OR told them the wrong information!

I thought once bankrupt things would be straightforward but its not meant to be!

I don't want to complain as I know the OR can make life difficult for us, but he is already! aaaahhhhh

Jane, I suggest you at least speak to someone senior just because we are BR does not mean we should be treated in the manner which you have, how can so much wrong info be given by one person. I am sorry but really would escalate this. what a nightmare, hope it all gets ironed out soon

Hi Pippa
Yes am good thanks, although I have to say that I hadn't realised how stressed out i had been with BR. It seems ever since Sep 12th I have been on a rollercoaster of emotions which I can't explain to anyone unless you have been throught it. I have been a bit amazed about how nice my OR man is, he sorted out Alliance and Leicester and seems geuninely kind so hope he keeps being like that. Our plan now is to see what the BI is, my reckoning is that we have 160.000 value on house, we owe 146.000 on our mortgage and if he takes into account the redemption penalty which is 4.500 my BI is only around 3 grand - but he has already said that in their office they don't take into account redemption penalties but I guess I am going to try and just make an offer and see what he says - it seems almost as if you have to haggle? what is happening with yours? did your OR give you any indication which way he is thinking? According to the estate agents I was talking to today they both said that they think the market will crash slightly due to the US stuff and that the market is slowing down, property prices have fallen this month so let's keep our fingers crossed. My OR said he wanted to wrap things up asap so am hoping he is keen to accept my offer ...

Fudge

No news yet on the BI at all and my OR said he was unable to advise as they have a specialist team in Swansea who deal with any property in BR and it was not his area of expertise so will just have to be patient. If it comes back they want 20k ish i should be ok, anymore than that I will have to have a rethink so am hoping to haggle too. I am under the impression they will take the redemption penalty in acount but again not 100% sure yet, really amazes me how it differs from region to region and even the I&E differs between OR assistants in the same office, all very perculiar if you ask me.

Still a few other issues to clarify yet ie shares/sharesaves etc only thing I have had confirmation of is that I can keep the car .

Am trying not to think too much as am a bit exhausted with it all at the mo, but at times its hard not too, could do with a break from work to be honest but have a project to finish by the 12th nov so its impossible but will take some time off then. Have found my clarins time for me card (like a boots advantage card) and i have enough points for a free facial yipee, felt like I had won the lotto.... so when I have a couple of days free I will book myself in.

Lets hope we all get some good news soon on the houses

Take care

Pippa
