Hiya xx

quick favour if you will...i have a friend...no debt problems (lucky so and so) who needs to remortgage, she feels like its a needle in a haystack and so wondered if anyone knows of some good comparison sites i can reccomend to her....the sort that just list high street lenders and there rates/deals...ect...

I have had a quick look about but alot want all your details and say they will call you....she doesnt want all that...just a list to look at.

Many thanks xx

Personally I would go to a broker - who can look across the whole mortgage spectrum for your friend and find a deal to suit her circumstances and budget. There are some firms who regularly post on this forum who would be worth a call.

Hi Angie,

A standard mortgage typically involves much less work than for a broker than a mortgage connected to financial difficulties.

For this reason the fees charged by brokers are generally much lower when arranging this type of mortgage.

Comparison sites are great for comparing interest rates. However just because a rate is low it doesn't mean that it will be the most appropriate or the cheapest mortgage overall.

Hi Angie

Your friend needs to consult a "whole of market" mortgage adviser. Any fee they charge will pale into insignificance compared with what their expertise and knowledge will save a client.

The mortgage advisers on here all come highly recommended.

Hi
Andrew makes a very good point in that the lowest rate is not always the best, especially if it costs you several thousand pounds in fees to secure that product.Cost's,tie ins and early redemption penalties must all be taken into account

Angie

Unless your friend understands these products it could be a bit confusing as to the real cost. Apr is a good starting point, but your friend will do well to talk to a whole of market broker and get a product recomended - if she did not want to then go through the broker to arrange the product, she may be able to go direct. But at least she will get an understanding of what the different products are.

On the subject of using APRs for comparison, you should always view the 'total cost for comparison APR' this quoted APR will include all the product related fees.
