Try Nationwide. I set up a basic account in 10 minutes face to face. They are lovely people in the branch too!
Only have a cashcard now but can do internet banking so not too bad.

(Rejected by Abbey with no explanation!)

Juditka, try gregory pennington its rbs but doesnt matter if you had debt with them. As explained in previous posts (search gregory pennington} you will find the managed account explained, neverending has this ac as so do I its great takes all the worry away can be set up over the phone and though there is a fee you dont get charged if any debits are returned etc, but shouldnt happen as they separate your bill money etc for you from your own cash and put it to another ac so you cant spend your bill money. Anyway have a look.

I found it very difficult to open a basic bank account and had applied to four or five different "high street banks". When I posted on this site just over a month ago Aguise recommended the Gregory Pennington bank account. I opened an account with them no problem and think that there service is brilliant - thanks again Aguise for the great advice. Also, Gregory Pennington are automatically issuing its banking customers with debit cards in March 2007, which will come in very handy (I understand that they will charge £12 per month for this account but I think this is well worth it).

All basic bank accounts will be incurring a charge, trust me.

Hi Priti, They've contacted us yesterday afternoon, but thanks to this website we knew it will happen eventually. Everytime I've seen a letter in the post from them i thought 'c**p this it, they are closing the account'. But need no worry, it seems easy enough to open another account and it wasn't worth all the 'sleepless' nights. They are just another bank after all... nothing special about them. Just try and get another account with someone else while you still got time, it will save you a bit of worrying. And let them wonder why they lost a customer!!![}:)]

By the way our new account was opened within 15 mins over the telephone. (Co-operative bank - cashminder account) Never thought it will be this easy. [:)]

hello again, i just opened a halifax basic account, you get a cash card first and in 3 months they give you an electron card, the halifax basic account with no frills, doesn't do a credit check and has online banking, you only can't open one if you have been made bankrupt. thanks again for making me feel better
