Hi

In November of this year it will be 6 years since my IVA was started.

I have completed the IVA and have notification of completion on my experian report.

However I can still only get a basic bank account and no credit. - will this situation change in November when the old defaults drop off my report?

Also is there anyway that a freeze is put on you that you cant see on your credit report that stops you getting credit - and if so how do you remove this once your iva is over?

Hi Tom

I assume that your IVA itself has finished? Given that, I would have a chat to your bank to see if they can upgrade your account. If not at least you can ask them how long you might have to wait for this to happen.

In terms of any mystery items going onto your credit record that you can not seewhich might prevent you from getting credit, I have never heard of this.

Hi

Guys - there is another thread on this forum - about bank account post IVA .
Bank can keep records for minimal 6 years - longer if there a tax issue is involved (this is excluded under data protection). thefore even if you are post IVA the bank records may still hold this information.

So maybe it better to change banks

Or ask for data information the bank hold on you

I've not heard of that either James. When I was having trouble with Nationwide pre IVA I actually phoned Experian to ask if there was anything they could see that I couldn't and I was told no - the information was the same for them and for me.

I would certainly look at changing banks once the six years is up and make sure there are no defaults showing on your record after IVA approval, if so then you need to get these removed.

It not the credit file - but the actual bank data which they hold on you.

OFT/data protection/information - may explain to people why this happens

Thanks James

yes my IVA finished a way back in 2002 - but this question seems to worry people a lot on here.

As i have mention it in NOT the credit file - but the bank own information on you, that may prevent the account being upgraded.
Obvioulsy people need to make their own decision on their own banking, so i all for giving the information to ensure informed choice
