Hey all,

My personal loan was due out today so I decided to go to the local branch and tell them I was insolvent, I can't pay the loan, business loan, credit card etc. I met with the manager and gave him a letter I'd printed off the templates on this site stating that I can no longer pay payments and would they freeze charges and interest until I sell my business and offer a full and final IVA.

I felt sick when I sat down in his office, I suppose I have been putting off this type of conversation for a while now. I needn't have worried, he was great. He said "don't worry, we deal with this all the time". I told him I had been on this forum and after all the advice I had received and knowledge I had gained I finally contacted Melanie's office. He said "Melanie Giles, yes, We've all heard of her"!

He gave me a leaflet with an income and expenditure form on it and said I may have to pay a token £1 each month. He then credited back my loan payment so that a cheque I had written out goes through ok and the loan doesn't make me overdrawn. Honestly, I couldn't have asked for more. Anyone out there, like me, scared to talk to the bank, have a go, you might be surprised.

Thats good news. Well done for your bravery today !!. You will be OK with Melanie.

How marvellous to hear of an understanding bank manager these days - and bravo to Lloyds TSB in Merseyside! I suggest that you continue to make the token payments as suggested, as this is likely to stop the account being referred to debt collectors, and hopefully we will be able to proceed with your case soon.
Regards, Melanie Giles, Insolvency Practitioner

What a great reception you recieved in Lloyds, I went into HSBC to give back my debit card, credit card and cheque books and they were less than pleasant I can tell you!!

It does make you feel sick, but well done[:)]

Good to hear they knew of Melanie and believed you were taking advice as a lot of my creditors denied all knowledge of letters sent to inform them of my proposed iva.

Good luck with the rest, you will be fine with Melanie[:)]
Best wishes

thanks everyone. I'm sure things can only get worse from now on though...until they get better (hopefully). It really helps that I have you all here every step of the way. I know I'm a Newbie but your words of comfort and encouragement have been amazing. v.w X

I admire you going into the bank and facing them - good for you, and what a great outcome for you.
Here's hoping the rest of your journey is as smooth.

I didn't mind talking to them on the phone, but face to face not sure if I could do that, I admire you for doing it and the positive response you got might encourage others to follow suit. Well done you x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Good news, v.w. It's nice to hear of some understanding bank managers, I hope you thanked him...

ps. You are very brave owning up to the manager, they did not have to react in such a positive way. Well done.
