we have a damaged roof and I wanted to take the state pension lump sum to pay for repairs but have been told this would be a windfall and I must hand all over to DFD.
What can I do?

Hi Julie and welcome to the forum

First of all ask them if you can keep some or all of the money - as they may well have discretion if your IVA is subject to the IVA Protocol.

If not, insist that they call a meeting of creditors to consider your request if the roof repairs are essential - especially with the winter now upon us.

Welcome Julie, is your property mortgaged? If so, claim on your buildings insurance. If rented, tell your landlord and get them to claim on their insurance. In any case insurance should take care of it. The downside is, unless you have buildings no claims, your policy next year will go up, but at least you wont need to go into your pension. Hopefully your IVA would have concluded well before you need your pension so DFD cant grab it...it's worth a try.
