i remmber only as recently as 10 years ago, were we had the round rubber bins, with the bin liners in, and you could fill as many bin bags as you wanted and you leave them at the top of the drive, the bin men woould not only take your bags away, but walk to were your bin was take that rubbish out and leave you with some bin bags.

And now look how easy its is for them now and they get well paid for it.

I pay £980 council tax a year and the only thing i get is the bin men, a very expensive service, and theirs even talks now in the goverment of charging us for the bins been emptied

I actually think MOST (not all) bin men are pig ignorant. They make no attempt to let people past in cars, instead leave you sitting behind them until they're ready to move. Then they have the cheek to complain about where somebody parks.

I can remember my mum having a metal dustbin and the bin man would go round the back of the house to pick it up, carry it on his shoulder, empty it and then put it back. A bit different to today!

We pay £1200 a year and like you say all we get is the bins emptied. We only get a rubbish collection once a fortnight (the other one is recycling) and in the summer the bin smelt and we had maggots even though it was washed and had bin fresh chucked in it regularly. I don't even think it's environmentally friendly as everything had to be double wrapped in plastic!

Grrrrr!!!

Ours is fortnightly as well, but we do get the chance to recycle most things, including food. Our normal household rubbish now usually consists of a couple of brabantia bin liners which fills half a wheelie bin. The rest is recycled.

We live in a cul de sac with cars parked outside houses and our bin men never complain.

Our cancel wants us to have compost bins to get rid of food, but I won't do that. Our garden is too small, and I've read about the creepy crawlies that are needed and I won't encourage them! Also, I don't know what I'd do with the compost!

I recycle as much as I can but everything else has to go in the rubbish. We are getting the chance to have a bin for garden waste next year as well at a cost of £35, which I think should come out of my council tax. Dave's mum is getting one, and as she lives in the same road we'll use hers!

We have a wheelie bin for normal household rubbish, another one for garden rubbish and waste food. We have a kitchen caddy for putting the waste food in initially, three plastic boxes for cans, bottles etc and a bag for paper and cardboard. We didn't have to pay anything for them at all.

The problem is where do you keep all these things?!? We've got 2 bins, which are kept on the path side of the hedge. The bedroom looks out onto the front garden so I don't want them there (and they'd ruin the lawn), and to get them round the back I'd have to drag them down the alley and in through the back gate. I don't think the council thought of this before lumbering us with them!

They are a bit bulky. We are ok as the bins are at the side of the house and the boxes round the back. We keep the paper bag in the kitchen.

We haven't got much of a garden or frontage so don't have to take them too far.

We have to have our bins in the front yard right outside the living room window. We cant keep them out back because we would have to drag them up and down a dark and very overgrown alleyway. Nobody ever goes out the back.
