Please help! My partner has 3 entries on his credit report, one of which is a CCJ, and these actually belong to a person with the same inital and surname as my partner. County court are saying the case is closed and they can't give experian the full name and date of birth that they require to remove this entry. We have made about 15 phone calls and are getting nowhere. Please help

Hey angela, welcome to the forum. That's awful and it is fraud so I would notify the police. The experts might be able to help you further. X

Have you actually tried ringing the credit reference agencies and explaining the situation?

I'm inclined to think that this is just a case of mistaken identity rather than fraud, and I don't think the police would be interested.

I agree that a phone call to Experian might help.

If the details of the company who have issued the CCJ are on the report it might be an idea to try and contact them.

I have helped a family member with this situation, the quickest way is dealing with the creditor direct, they can remove the entry once you prove that it is not you.

you should whenever possible write to Expirian and Equifax for a credit report.

This will detail what may be marked against you or is influencing your credit record.

If something appears wrong then you must write to them explaining why and that the record must be ammended.

As Experian already seem aware of your circumstances then wouldn't writing to them formally with whatever evidance you may have to hand that the record should be changed be the correct thing to do! or am I missing something.

John - you are probably right, but what is even better is having the entry completly removed as if it had never been there. That is what the creditor can do but not the credit reference agencies - they can only put an entry against it saying you dispute it.

Alan is absolutely right - but how tedious this sort of thing can be. I had a friend who had a false record registred on a Criminal Records Background check, and it took 18 months to get resolved during which time he could not work in the NHS.
