I have just logged on and read a few recent threads after being away for a few days.

So many of you are having a rough time at the moment that I wanted to share this with you in hope it will give some of you a laugh.

We have recently moved with my husbands job and are fortunate that his job provides us with a house. The problem is that we have just moved from exactly the same style house but are being charged £200 more rent per month for the new one?? It is supposed to be getting sorted out but at present this is still on going from 3 months ago.

So we are struggling to say the least. Anyway to prevent waffling on (as I do often lol) there is always a funny side.

We have cut back everywhere possible to get through this month, therefore my car has been running on the odd £2 and if its lucky £5 of petrol here and there (gone are the times where I felt embarrased to put anything less than a £10 in my car) Anyway, my warning light had come on a few days ago but I know I still have around 30 miles before we conk out.

I was wishing it to last to get the kids to school and back today and then I wouldn't need the car over the weekend then monday I would be able to use next weeks budget.

So, last night I went to one of my daughters parents evenings and on the way home meant to stop at the local garage to get £2 worth of petrol which I had managed to find around the house without tucking into next weeks budget early. However, on the way home I totally forgot to stop and get the petrol, oops!!. So I thought rather than driving back to the garage and wasting more petrol I would wait until I took my children to school in the morning and get some on the way.

So here goes, kids were running a tadge late after deep discussion over cornflakes or toast!! They were armed with plates of cakes to sell in aid of Children in Need, PE kits, school bags and packed lunch bags and eventually piled into the car.

At 0945 we were in seroius trouble of detention for being late for school so I made the brave decision to risk the journey to school and get the petrol on the return route. [:p]

DOH!! With a cough and a splutter are trusty car came to a stop right opposite the local Fire Station. Oh Pants!![:(!] or words to that effect!! I had visions of flashing lights and sirens and some very cross fireman shouting explicite words at me to remove my car from there way. [:I] At the same time I was thinking how on earth was I going to push my Ford Galaxy out of the way???

Everything crossed I started the engine and fortunatley there were enough fumes to get us 5 more metres away from the fire station, FEW!!![:p]

Ah! we still had to get my two elder daughters, there cakes, bags etc to school. Fortunately I bundled my little one into a pushcair my 4 year old had a "Ride" on the back clinging on for dear life and we legged it as quick as possible up to the school, a 20 min walk away. Who needs a gym membership lol!!

Although a little late we made it all in one piece (including the cakes). Children dropped off I then thought about what the plan of action may be!

Fortunately the school is near a mini village high street, with a bank and a local garage. Problem solved. Ha ha ha! who am I trying to kid!!

Went to the bank to get some cash to buy a petrol can and petrol from the garage. OOps! couldn't get the money out....my purse was still in my car a 20 min walk away!![:(!]

Popped into the garage just to make sure that they did sell petrol cans before we ended up trecking back and forth for nothing. The lady was lovely and very helpful in my predicament. She allowed me to borrow a can (saving me £5 - loving that) and then filled it up with petrol and told me to pop back and pay once my car was running again. Bless her I was so chuffed![:D]

So off we went got the car running, bought the very kind lady some chocolates (that were on offer in our local shop) and headed back to the garage. Said thanks a million times then went to hand the petrol can back.... and had only left the lid on the side of the road ahhhhh!!!!!![:I]

Feeling like a right plonker went to retrive the lid to return it back to the garage. On the return I pulled up outside the garage which is near the pumps, a lovely man came out and asked me how much I would like, so I explained that I was returning the lid etc. He asked me if I needed any petrol, which obviously I did but it was £1.05 a litre and as I only had £2 I didn't want to embarrass myself anymore.

So after all that I ended up using more petrol than needed and although very grateful spent an extra £3 for the chocolates!!![:D]

The moral of the story?......Steer clear of Cornflakes!

Hope this raised a laugh or two!!

Quite a day!!

I'm impressed at your discipline in refusing to dive in to next weeks budget, even in dire emergency.

If only your creditors could know........., and I do hope the kids didn't get detention!

Hope you get the house situation sorted out.

Regards

With petrol at lottery win figures im surprised £2.00 doesnt evapourate before it hits the tank! lol

Be careful though, running so low can suck all the muck out the bottom of your tank, into the engine, clog your injectors etc (ooh!) and give you bills that
will make £2 look like a walk in the park!!

Hahahaha, just what I needed to cheer me up. Getting a bit bogged down with trying to find a rented home at the moment so this was just what the doctor ordered. I feel much better now and ready for the next day of trawling the net for a landlord/letting agent who has a 3-4 beds, likes pets, likes kids, likes bankruptcees and has fair rents..... Oh the joys.....

Learning as I go along and getting wiser all the time!!!
It's nice to be back......

Hi
It brought a smile to my face and reminded me of when I ran out of fuel on the way back from work one evening.I was forever running my car on the orange light and neverhad more than £10 of fuel in there at any one time.
On a serious note for those of us who know exactly how many miles they can get out of £10 fuel don't forget to allow for the recent hike in prices.I used to allow 70 miles on £10 but have reduced that to 60.

Mish

Sorry to hear you have had such a dreadful week, I hope you are ok after your time in hospital
It puts things into perspective when you hear of a death of a young mother leaving 2 children behind, so sad and really makes you stop and think for a while...
Be positive & look after yourself, there are more important things in life than debts....

Best Wishes

OK I did warn you that these situations crop up regularly!!

On sunday I bought my youngest daughter (4) a coat off of a car boot sale. It was a NEXT one in great condition and cost me a whole £1!!

I was happy and little un was happy also

When she went to nursery today she wore her "new" coat and her nursery teacher said how lovely it was....

.....My daughter replied "I know my mum got it off the car boot for a quid, it was a right bargain!!"

LOL!!

Aren't kids great?????

Mish, I've only just seen this post (no internet at home so reading as and when I can at work) and I just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear about your friend. News like that really puts things into perspective x
