what are classed as protected outgoings

If i enter into an IVA, what are classed as protected outgoings, i understand rent, Council Tax and utilities have to be allowed, but will i be able to keep luxuries like Sky TV and broadband?

Hi I was able to keep my broadband but sky seems to be at the discretion of ip or creditors as some people are allowed to keep it and some aren't. Best thing would be to disclose all outgoings to ur ip then they will be able to tell u what the creditors will or won't allow

hi there vickir and welcome to the forum yes you can keep your sky tv broadband internet as long as you can aford them but once in a iva you will find it very hard to get sky tv or mobile phones on contract etc etc for 5 years once you have done the iva wait 12 months after and then you will get them again

This will on depend on what your creditors deem to be reasonable expenses. Currently Sky and broadband are usually allowable in an IVA but this will depend on the specific monthly cost for both.

It might be worth switching your broadband to Sky as they have free broadband. For £5 a month you can also have free calls.

i dont smoke and dont drink, and stay in almost every night, i need something to while away the long evenings, i'm a single mum, so dont even have another person to speak to after 9pm

I am afraid that creditors have little sympathy when it comes to Sky TV - but you may be allowed to have the basic package which works out at about £20 per month. Broadband is generally accepted these days, especially if you have children of school age.
