I printed off a page of the London Gazette from 1980 just a minute ago.

Its a searchable database so if you won the Victoria Cross, were appointed to the Privy Council or were declared bankrupt you can be found.

I'm not saying you will be found but you can be.

I hope you were joking james...

lying will only get you so far. why take on extra stress of the uncertainty of you being found out?

be honest live life without probs!

wouldn't it be considered as fraud, lying to obtain credit??
EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON................

Reading these posts makes me think of Denis Healy's First Law of Holes - if you are in a hole stop digging! I have been arguing on the forum (when the subject has come up) that people who are or have been in IVAs are often implied or thought to be dishonest - utterly wrong in my opinion - but lying is wrong and liars always get found out - eventually

Exactly, you can't lie about bankruptcy so its there to haunt you. Thats the reason I haven't gone bankrupt. And because I wouldn't have the guts. It would be in the paper etc.... So iva it is.

I am happy with my IVA and would only go bankrupt if I had to. I would lose my house and I don't want that. That said, I don't blame anyone going along that route.

I would never lie and say I hadn't been bankrupt if I had been, neither would I lie to say that I had never sought help with my finances.

There is an old saying isn't there:

Be sure your sins will find you out.

I can't lie, I try sometimes but when asked a question I blurt out the truth. I get nervous if i try and lie. [:0] Not good as lying in some situations can be good.(I think)

It pays to be totally honest. I know some people get away with it, but I just know I would be found out if I tried it.

Me too. I'd feel guilty that I would be found out too. Not worth it.

And me. I wouldn't be able to relax knowing I'd lied about something, and I'm sure it's an offence to lie about being BR if asked.

I would be frightened of someone finding out.

I'm sure it would be an offence - you are lying to get credit so it could be classed as fraud I suppose.

I was asked by my new bank if I'd ever been bankrupt, thats why I asked about where the info is stored and could you say no, but I would just say anyway. That is one reason I wont go bankrupt its always there in the background. Just applying for a bank account seems difficult if you are BR.

In one way, I'm glad I'm as old as I am as I am less likely to need credit once the IVA has finished, and definetely not a mortgage.

I can understand why people are scared of it though.
