There are still a good number offering basic bank accounts.

Co Op Cash minder, Halifax easy cash will give you an account with internet access, a paying in book, and a Visa Electron card.alliance & leicester and Nationwide have basic accounts with a cash withdrawal card.

Bread which has just launched will allow you a Maestro card.

In addition you can get a cash plus mastercard which can help you with credit card type transactions. This is a front loaded card ie put money in there before you can spend it. You have to pay an initial fee of £10 followed by a monthly charge of £4.95 but I believe it is good value and places you in a similar position as those who have credit cards. Tuxedo are also providing a front loaded credit card as well.

Hope this helps!

I had heard that Nationwide are a problem but I was under the impression that Halifax were still in the market for such people.

As far as I'm aware Halifax have never offered accounts to undischarged bankrupts. Until recently there were only 3 banks who did, then Nationwide changed their policy leaving only the Co-op and Barclays.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

Yes I will add that one as well!

I think it is also important to show some loyalty to these concerns when better times come!
