Sharing from experiences of dealing with debt
The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.

Have a couple of glasses of wine - it will make you feel much better! As soon as I receive the papers from Tina, once she has finished her work with you, we can proceed to start taking this headache away from you.
lem, what a pickle! well things can only get better now can't they? i'm sure others more expert will advise you.
you need to get yourself sorted out with a basic bank account asap. our new co op account is working well & they were very quick in setting it up,remember to take photo id.
Tina is a star,i'm glad you don't feel quite so alone, big hug, hang on in there x
Nothing stays the same...everything changes..hang on in there!
Thank you, I have phoned Co op today as we opened the account over the phone on 2nd and still haven't received anything through the post, unfortunately the nearest branch to us is 20 miles away, they have said we should get the documents through the post any day now, but we have had postal delays due to the snow in the last couple of weeks so we just have to hang on in there at the moment.
Egg have called and spoke to hubby this am, he was honest and told them we are in difficulty and are looking at an IVA, passed on Tina's details (with her consent), they did ask if he wanted to look at reduced payments but he told them we had been advised to not make any further payments while we go through the IVA process and they were remarkably courteous, not at all what I was expecting. hubby found it a bit difficult with it being the first creditor and said he feels a bit of a failure but I have told him not to be silly, we need to be strong now, at least we are dealiing with the situation and are looking to a positive solution, feeling positive today!!! we can do this!!
He's not a failure and you are doing the right thing by dealing with this.
With the Co-op I believe you can pay in through the Post Office, so it doesn't matter how far away your branch is.
Glad Egg were ok.

Hi, we've paid money into our co op bank account in the post office-worked fine,no problems so that will help you lem. when our cards came we had to do some security over the phone to set online banking up.
for your hubby, you would only be failing if your head was in the sand, facing up to the debt takes courage,it's the only way to get through this.
you're doing well lem x

the Co-op account is brilliant. I live in Ireland where there are no Co-op branches, but I have used the Post Office as if it were the Co-op branch. excellent service.
Don't worry about the creditor calls. They are only following their procedures, which we all do at work. They are just doing their jobs asking for payment. But like you, I didn't make any payments, explaining that I did not wish to give any creditor preferential treatment whilst the IVA proposal was being put together.
I don't have a landline, so all calls came to my mobile, so I could see the number and not answer when it was a creditor I had already explained the situation to.
As others have mentioned above, you could get your phone number changed for peace of mind - as each call is a stark reminder of how serious things are, but when your husband spoke to Egg he wasn't a failure, he was showing bravery, as you are actually facing up to the situation and dealing with it, instead of running away from it.
Keep strong, and you will feel a lot better once you receive your proposal, as this will make it easy for you to see why your creditors would be getting the best deal by accepting the IVA
