I have been living in the States for 9 years. My husband moved out 5 years ago and I've been using credit cards, plus small income to live. I have credit card debts in the UK of 26K as well as credit card debt in the US. Our divorce was final three weeks ago and I was awarded no spousal maintenance. I would like to file an IVA in the UK to manage the credit card debt in England. Any advice welcome. I have not yet defaulted, but minimum payment are due in two weeks and I have no money to cover. What is the best thing to do?

Hi pl and a warm "Stateside" welcome to the forum

I am afraid that you will be unable to apply for an IVA in the UK, as you have no residency over here, however the US have a very similar procedure available under Chapter 13 of US bankruptcy law. I suggest that you contact an attorney who specialises in this work for further advice on this procedure.
