i have had a look on some other sits and it seems i would need to be in some sort of employment which is a bit rubbish as i was told i could def go for the iva so i dont no where they get there information from at the cab so ill just have to tell them what i have been told and see if they can reduce my payments for me as i really dont want to loose my car, i no that probably seems really stupid as it is obviosly my best option but i love my car and would never be able to work my way back up to what i have got even if i was given some sort of allowance when going bankrupt

Check out the sister site to this, there is a link on the top left hand corner.

They will give you great advice about bankruptcy.

I was worried about losing my car when I went BR Rebecca, but after looking into my options I realised that I wanted a fresh start more than I wanted to keep my car. In the end I was able to keep it, but to be honest a car is a car, and as long as it gets you from A-B that's the main thing.

Don't be put off having a fresh start just because of a car x

Not at all Rebecca - I think it was worth £3000-£3500 at the time.

One other thing, is there anyone that could pay the difference in the value of the car for you? e.g. if the car is worth £4000 and the OR allows you £2500 is there anyone who could make an offer on the difference?

i no you all have very good points and i just wish i could let go of the car and get rid of all this very stressfull but what if i do end up with no car and stuck here when my family and friends are not here and also struggleing to get to appointments and then there is shopping to get plus like i said i could never replace the car and £4,000 is a hell of a lot lf money to me i wouldnt want to be stuck with some old car that keeps breaking down as i couldnt afford the repairs (the one i have has been pretty good, alot better than what i have had in the past)

My hubby knows how you feel about your car he was obsessed with his but when reality struck he realised it had to go, it was an expensive car 18K he has now got a 18yr old vehicle with 68,ooo miles on with two owners it cost 2000 as we were advised this is what the OR will allow, now it is his pride and joy, he travels back and forward to aberdeen. It did take him a while to find the car he viewd loads but in the end got the car he wanted, when he's at home he takes his sister to and from hospital so he really needed a realiable car. If you look on the BR website there a quite a few threads on this suject.

Take Care
Ann

As far as I'm aware (hopefully Melanie will say if I'm right) if you have dependent children you have a good case for keeping a car. You can get quite a good car for £2000 - £2500 - I had a look on Ebay and Autotrader when I thought I was going to lose mine and there was a lot to choose from.

BTW are you sure it's worth £4k? Have you looked on Parkers or Glasses guide? Have you taken into account anything wrong with the car? Mine should have been worth more than £3000, but I had put dodgy Tesco petrol in it and the sensors needed replacing, it had some small dents and the boot didn't close easily, so this knocked quite a bit off the value.

Sorry, what I meant was if the OR allowance is £2500, and your car is worth £4000 (although definitely check that out), is there anyone who could pay the balance of £1500 so that you could keep the car you have.

They might not have to pay the full amount - I was advised that someone could make an offer as the OR has to take into account selling fees, paperwork etc.

Have a look at:

http://www.glass.co.uk/
http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/used-prices/

Parkers is free for a basic valuation.

If the OR had taken the car my uncle was going to make an offer for the difference and I would have paid him back over time from any surplus I had. I was told by my IP when my IVA failed that this would be ok.
