Alas poor Hammy (yes that's his/her name) doomed to a solitary existence [:(]

Andy you started this thread :o) My thanks go to this forum and its members for saving me and my family from bankruptcy and the certain loss of our home. I am now in an IVA and embracing a frugal existence. However last night we had Beef Brisket (£3.00 Adsa) cooked all day in my slow cooker served with mashed tatties turnip peas and rich gravy made from the juices in the slow cooker. Yummy! Total cost per head 70 pence! I have loads of ideas on how to save money from your Household budget but I hesitate to post. My last thread (how to make a fake McDonalds) appeared in
‘Top 20 Hot Topics from The IVA Forum’
just after some poor person posted about struggling, and another about bankruptcy! I felt my thread was a little frivolous. I wonder Andy is it possible to keep a thread within the
‘Top 10 Social Chat Topics from the IVA Forum ‘
and keep the Hot Topics more focussed on individuals in the acute stages of the IVA/Bankruptcy process?

Hi Maxdebt.. many thanks for the suggestion..
we could have a go at separating out the threads but so often its the rich vein of interwoven tragedy amd humour that makes them so special and true to life

Well Iam a self employed accountant who is qualified and has a degree in Business Studies.

I speciallise with small businesses mainly family based. I come accross all sorts of problems from success and failure(sadly)!

I suffered badly in the late 80's and early 90's and had to go out on my own. Coupled with a growing family and a serious road accident in France in 2003 I had to go into an IVA. We ran into problems with the IVA in 2006 and because of what I do I had to sell my home and complete my IVA earlier.

I accept full responsibility and there are many times during the day when I feel ashamed of what has happened to me because I should have known better!

In many ways this forum has helped me to overcome my shame by just giving some of my time to help people who have suffered the same misfortune as myself!

I was not meaning this particular thread Dots just social threads in general. It's just me I guess [:I] I often hesitate to post especially at times like this when there are plenty of active threads and responses from individuals worried to death
My thanks to Melanie and her team :)

Don't worry Maxdebt - the thing I like about this forum is that we help each other, but we can also have a laugh. When I've felt low and worried about things I've enjoyed reading the social posts.

Keep posting!!!

Actually you might be able to help me Kerri! I had root canal treatment a couple of years ago and I still get pain in the tooth occasionally - could it be possible that there is still some of the root left? If there is, can they do anything - I have a (very expensive!) crown?

I'm reluctant to get the dentist to touch it again before I had the root canal she tried filling the tooth but first time she gave me an injection she caught a blood vessel and my face swelled up, and the injection didn't take and it was the most painful visit to the dentist I've ever had!

skippy your root will still be there, root canal therapy is the removal of your nerve in your tooth, depending on what tooth it is, it can have upto 3 nerve chambers, if it is still hurting it could mean a bit of bacteria is still left, also RCT is only about 85% successful, although a very good means of keeping your tooth,it is done because the nerve is dying in the tooth and usually forms an abscess, i would go back and have it x-rayed to make sure there is no doramnt abscess there, in reality once the nerve has been removed the tooth is dead, so it could be another underlying problem such as your gums, only guessing here, or it could be a fracture in the root of the crown, causing pain after it has been played about with, with out seeing your x-ray i can only guess, there are options such as a small surgery procedure if there is an abscess if the RCT hasn't been successful, or the dentist could try RCT again, as the nerve chambers are filled after the removal of the nerve, as it is all done basically by guess work it could be the roots are not filled enough or filled too much, with out getting it x-rayed you won't know, all depending how honest your dentist is with you, in regards to keeping the tooth, as a lot of nhs dentists are now saying they won't do this work on the nhs as we are given points for the type of treatment you receive thanks to the good old government, to have a tooth extracted or RCT'd is the same value of points, so unfortunately they opt for the extraction as less time is spent on this, sorry if i am waffling, unfortunately too a visit too the dentist will cost you 15.90 just for the x-ray it all depends on how much it is hurting hope this helps, ask away if not.by the way is the pain started by hot or cold or when you eat or drink anything in particular, do you know if your crown has a post on it? do you grind, as one of the biggest causes of dental pain is through stress and this can be very painful, is the pain just to that one tooth.

Thanks Kerri, I don't think the crown has a post, I think it's what's left of the tooth. I've just remembered the dentist saying there was a very fine crack in the tooth above the gum line so I don't know if that's got anything to do with it. I'm due for a check up in November so I'll speak to her then. She is normally pretty good, so I'll see what she says. I had the root canal done on the NHS and the crown was private - back in the days of credit cards! It doesn't hurt all the time, just twinges now and then but I wish I'd had the tooth out in the first place!

skip it could be something as simple as a food trap, try flossing round the area, or get some fine bottle brushes from boots called tepe's to clean in between the gap, it could be the fracture at the gum level which is causing the pain, get some corsodyl mouth wash and try using that or use good old salty mouth baths, hold it on the area for as long as possible to keep it clean, you can always e-mail me once she has seen you and let me know what she says and i can advise you further.
