Sorry to barge in just been reading this, Skippy your pain sounds like entraptment of the sciatic nerve in the lower spine, your pain radiates through the bum cheeks and is affecting the sciatic nerve in the leg.

Thanks Lily and Hara. I think it's the sciatic nerve as well - the pain is unbearable when it flares up and I have a problem walking or standing. I saw a chiropractor last year and they told me it wasn't the sciatic nerve as I wasn't in enough pain! I so wanted to hit her as I was thinking how do you know how much pain I'm in?!?!?

Dear skippy,

I have never come across bilateral Sciatia. It could be a disc problem such as a disc prolapse or there colud be an element of blood suply problem or it may just be a back ache which could be psotural.I WOULD BE STRONGLY INCLINED TO SEE GENERAL PRACTITIONAR WITH A VIEW TO A SPECIALIST REFERRAL. This I strongly advice if the symptoms are progressive.

In case of sciatica, the pain is sharp and radiates along the back of the leg.It is usually unilateral.

Hi Dots
I hate it when employers drag their feet on such important issues. Although I would say it is good that they have come up with a proposal to keep you. With regards to the contract:
I am assuming the role they are offering you is a new one - with new job title and duties. I assume this as if this is not the case then your job is not redundant, although I am a bit bemused as to how they can offer a better contract??
If you are offered a new job

You may not be entitled to a payment if you are offered a new job. You will only lose the redundancy payment only if the new job is offered before your old employment contract expires, and starts within four weeks - which I assume it will.

If you are offered a new job in this way you can put off the decision whether or not to accept it for a four-week trial period. Or if you need retraining, the trial period may be extended beyond four weeks by written agreement between you and the company. If at the end of the trial period you are still in the job, you will be considered to have accepted it.

If the new job is not a suitable alternative to the old one (because of differences in capacity, location or terms and conditions of the contract of employment) and you turn it down before the end of the trial period, you will be considered to have been redundant from the date your original employment ended. But if you refuse an offer of a job that is a suitable alternative without a good reason, you will not be entitled to a redundancy payment.

Hope this helps with the thought process - if the job is out of the area and you will not be confident of your reliability then this is a suitable reason for not taking the job. Although you can see if it works for you and the company on a trial basis.

good luck
Sharon
