Lula

Glad you are feeling a bit brighter.

Only you can know whats right for your own family circumstances. I must admit, I had a few laxative moments when I told mine and it wasnt easy.

There will always be support for you here, on dark, dingy days like this when problems seem endless and autumn and winter are just around the corner. We could have done with a summer, right? I blinked and missed it. We just keep plodding on and support one another.

I remember telling my mum about the IVA, and she offered to release equity from her house to help me. I said no, as I couldn't do that to her. When I told her about the BR, she told me not to worry, that everyone was doing it these days. I couldn't believe how well she took it!

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

Hi Lula

I am picking up this thread a little late, but understand exactly where you are coming from. so to jin you, I am going to have a bit of a rant myself!!!! Its not to make you feel any worse, if only to make me feel a little better!!!

I too, am so sick and tired of all of this. I woke up this morning to get my daily "fix" - very strong coffee and my first of only 5 fags a day - only to find that the milk was sour, payday is next week Tuesday, and no damn money for milk!! Oh! Don't get me wrong, I have a bit of money in my purse, but that is for food for the animals and to pay the parking charges for my job.

About a month ago, I was asked if I would partner someone in a Club Golf Competition in September which I agreed to thinking - ok - I am sure I can save the £20 in the next 2 months, only, they asked for the money on Saturday as they have to book and pay in advance. How embarressed was I when I said I could not play (I just don't have the money), my excuse being I could not get the day off work!!

Ok - I feel a bit better now!!!!!

Take care and hang in there

Sue

i know exaclty how you feel..

alltho im 25, earn more money then most of my mates, yet am running out of ideas as the why i cant go out, watch the game down the pub, go away for the weekend, etc etc.

ive noticed now aswell the phone calls from friends asking me to come out are getting fewer and fewer, as they know i wont come out, and to be honest its making me feel like life is passing me by!

i know it my own fault im in this mess, and to be honest i bet most of my friends aint far off my postion... but that doesnt help really..

i play football at the weekends, and ive even had to say to the manager - look, i cant always pay my subs each week (its only 4 pound but when ure skint, you skint right) and ill square you up when i get paid.

he must think im a right tight wad.

most of my friends are now buying houses, while irent a two bed flat, dont get me wrong, its in a nice area and brand new with no dodgy neighbours,l but its still a flat with no garden and feels so same at times im suffocating..

oh qwell, ive got five years time to look forward to...

oh well, by the time im debt free most of my mates will be looking at ivas im sure...

i used to play golf each weekend aswell, but at 10 - 25 pound a round ive had to pretty much give up golf.
lots of payments to go.

Have you thought about telling your friends about your difficulties? I am sure that they would be understanding and not put you under so much pressure to conform. There are cheaper ways of socialising - BBQs at home, cheap wine spring to mind!

First of all well done Lula - hopefully we can meet up at the next London meeting - I am hoping to get there this time.

Richard, I agree with Melanie about telling your friends. I have been honest with my close friends all the way through - I didn't want to lie to them about why I couldn't do things. Everyone has been really supportive towards me and it has made life easier now that they know.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

Hi Lulu

Just read your story and I can actually relate exactly what you are saying already even though with me i've justed IVA this month @ £500 p/m. My debts were 32K. You have done welll so far with 9 months don't start feeling a failure. Just think just over 4 months time you will have peace of mind. I am the same with my friends and have to turn offers of weekends, holidays, nights out down because i know I just cannot afford it. in fact I never really could afford the life style before hence the so much debt!!! But it wasn't just that, it was having the all the nicest of clothes, latest fashions etc. And all for what?!! Peace of mind now is more important - not having to worry. Hopefully your boyfriend will support you and well done on your job promotion which is a great confidence boost. We could all do with that now and again.

Thanks guys, i hope when the next London meeting is annouced i can go and meet some of you.

Maz and Richard, I still feel the same way. The invites ot have stopped and i feel liek a failre at 27..but i have to suffer that i suppose. I am afraid telling people about my situation is not an option. I pretty sure all my friends are in debt and like you say i am sure they will be looking into IVAs in the future. But at the present time i have told them i dont want to spend because i am trying to pay all my debts back, which is close enough to the truth. But i had a lifestyle that was well beyond my means back then...well in Jan i will be 1 year down and 4 years closer to the end.
Yeah the promotion is working out well! ... stressful but i am far to busy to spend any money! LOL.

Lula do not see yourself as a failure you are a brave person who has faced a bad situation and taken action instead of running round in circles and hoping it will go away, that in my book is not the sign of a failure.
