Welcome to the forum. I can't answer in respect of the chequebook as we got ours sent through before the IVA was approved. Both the Halifax and Co-op do basic accounts with a Visa Electron debit card and you get online banking. Halifax you can just pick up the forms in the bank and Co-op you just need to ring up and they go through the application with you online.

No basic Bank Account will give you a chequebook. The way some have overcome this(as mentioned) is to open a normal bank account before announcing the IVA. Banks don't often go back and check(except HSBC) so you get your cheque book and other cards this way.

Chequebooks are allowed under IVAs but Banks don't issue them in a Basic bank account

Lloyds TSB worked for me Janet, I told them I was intending to go in to an IVA and they were happy enough to give me a VISA debit card and cheque book.

Cr15py,

Your account isn't a basic bank account if you have a cheque book? Normal Bank accounts are credit scored.

You have probably got a classic account that comes with what you have got but your were credit scored prior to the IVA. In an IVA everything will show up as big fat 8Default so you wouldn't have got the account with those IVA defaults.

OK Skipper. The person I saw at LTSB said I could have a cheque book no problems even though I was going in to an IVA, but I agree it is probably different once you are in an IVA. I misread the original post!

Hi janet and welcome to the forum

I opened my account pre my iva so have a normal current account with the co-op butI have heard they do a basic account also if you are already in an iva.

They offer a really good service in branch, on the telephone and also the internet service is fab.

Good Luck
