I have a paypal top up card.
With it I paid £3.80 online to mediafeed.me so I could download a manual they advertised they had.
They didn't have it.
Ok, I can write off £3.80.
A week later I get an email from mediafeed saying they are taking £56 out of my account for a years subscription.
I email them saying No I don't want it, didn't request it. They did not reply.

The thing is I rang paypal top up and gave them the information and told them that this is unauthorised.
Don't pay it.
They said because mediafeed had taken money from me previously, they can again.
At that time the money had not left my account.
I pleaded with paypal top up saying it is theft.
They passed the money onto mediafeed.
They then cancelled my card so mediafeed could not do it again and are sending me a new card.

Ok forget that I now do not have access to any money until my new card arrives (I can't buy petrol to get to work)

How can paypal do this to me?
I would dearly love some sort of explanation.
Thank you.

Hi
It is worth formally disputing the transaction. Paypal dhould refund this to your bank whilst they investigate it.
The best way to stop a payment on a card is to report that you have lost your card

Can I make them do that?
They said they would put in a dispute which would take 120 days.
They even said I might win and get my money back.

All DD or even regular card payment schedules can be cancelled from your account online like TV licence. If you can't...I suggest you do not use these pay pal or any top up thingies, and open a good basic account and get a visa debt card. Then you will have control. I can even cancel my IVA payment on it....but I wouldn't dare!

VISA debit is all you need....avalable to all here

That's provided you can get a basic bank account. Not everyone can. It's then a case of either a managed account or a prepaid card and I think they are pretty good for basic shopping.

Thanks for that.

Why did paypal topup pay the money out after I asked them not to?

If you are paying for something on a credit or debit card it doesn't have the same protection as paying by DD. The onus is on you to stop the payments, and the bank don't have a responsibility to do so.

I tried to stop the payment.
I emailed mediafeed who ignored me.
I told paypal topup not to pay it.
What am I missing here?

You're not missing anything. A card, be it debit, credit, or prepaid does not have the same protection.

The only people who cancel the payment are those people you were buying from in the first place.

Thank you. I never knew that.
No wonder paypal topup cancelled my card.
It is kind of scarry.

If you have paid someone once.
Sounds like you are at their mercy.

Curious. What would have happened if I did not have enough funds on my card to cover the payment?

In that case it wouldn't have been paid. You can't go overdrawn on a prepaid card.
