Hi there and welcome
You will be able to open a bank account though it will need to be a basic one with no credit or overdraft. There are various ones avaliable but you must make sure they are not a creditor of yours.
I recommend the thinkbanking account a few on here have this account. They will accept anyone and does not matter who creditors are. The account can be opened over the phone and has a fee of £12.50 and comes with a maestro card. Check it out thinkbanking.co.uk you would need to look at the managed account. Yes you can have this account as joint.

Hope this helps.

I think what you need to do is open your account pre IVA I opened an account with the Co operative bank, just a basic account and all was fine. The most important thing is that the new account is with a bank /organisation that you do not owe money to.
Some banks are linked to others, there is a topic on here that states which they are. Please check it out. It is under top rated articles. the link is choosing a bank account before an IVA

Hi
If you are thinking about an iva and your current bank is one of your creditors, make it a priority to open a new bank account.
As Marsha says, make sure you choose a bank that is not one of your creditors and you opt for one with no overdraft.
I also bank now with the coop and have found them brilliant both on the phone and the internet banking is also fantastic and easy to use.
I think hsbc/first direct now have a policy of not having bank accounts with people in ivas.
Be positive & look after yourself, there are more important things in life than debts....

Best Wishes

Emma x

Hi we opened an account with Natwest their Step Account and its really good haven't found any where that doesn't accept it yet!
Also Nationwide have a good account if they are not one of your creditors.
