Hi
I'm still trying to weigh up my options from an informed position. can anyone advise if having an iva will mean my address is blacklisted, or if only i alone will be, rather than anyone who lives at the same address having their credit rating affected?
many thanks

Hi, I believe it's the individual that will be affected. Are you financially linked to anyone at the same address? x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Hi I think that is only a myth. It's the person that is black listed not the property. Although credit checks are done on who lives there. Seen the reports myself. All the people show up on the data of who is in the household x

Hi. While you won't be blacklisted your personal credit rating will be shot the proverbial as will anyone's with any joint borrowing or joint accounts. People you live with may be temporarily affected but they can file a notice of dissasociation if they aren't financially connected to you. x

thanks for both responses.
i'm considering trying for an iva because i'm splitting up with my partner. but if in the future we were able to get back together, or if i eventually meet someone else, i'm worried that i won't be an attractive option as a partner if i have an iva.

hrb150 - welcome to the forum

Sounds as if you need to talk all your options through with a few good companies.
Any debt programme has its drawbacks - so it depends on your personal circustances etc - which it the better option. Dont feel rush into making any decision until you are sure its for you.

Credit files are individual, and not linked on address.

As long as you are not financially linked (i.e. have joint debts or joint bank account) your partners credit file will be their own, but yours will be shot to pieces for a minimum of 6 years from the start of a IVA.

Hi. Don't base your choice on whether you will be attractive as a partner. To be blunt, if someone gauges your "attractiveness" as a partner on your credit score they aren't worth worrying about.

As said above chat to a few companies and weigh up the options best for you.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

BOL...you make me smile!! [;)]

On a kinda similar but random note..we're getting post to the previous tenant at the moment as they havent set a redirection up and I cant help but recognise some of the envelopes, PO Boxes and postcodes they are being sent from..seems like the previous tenant didnt like paying her creditors much! tut tut!
When you make a mistake, don't look back at it long...the past cannot be changed. It is the present and future that counts

Write back to them saying you don't know who they are, you don't have a forwarding address and they don't live there and ask that they remove the details from their computer systems.

Tell them any further mail will just get sent back marked "not known at this address" and any court documents will be forwarded to the court with a copy of the letter you sent them asking for them to delete the name from your address as gone away / not living at this address.

Then put any further post back in the postbox unopened marked "Not known at this address Return to Sender"

If you get any court documents though you should forward on the note you send along with the court papers.

Our old next door but one neighbour now lives out of the country and has done for some years (he lets his house out) and he left debts behind. We keep an eye on things here and the tenants are still bringing down post for him. I'm afraid it goes in the recycling!!

thanks for the advice. could you share what the drawbacks are in a nutshell please, if that's possible?
